Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

poster whose husband is very unwell has tried to be tested but they keep being refused. They are self isolating. They live in NY. There are suggestions the virus was also onboard from the cruise before. Could then have been carried by crew.
Or carried on board by the American tourists, given the virus was more prevalent in the US by then.

With numbers above 600 just for Australia plus an unknown number of crew and tourists, it also seems the virus spread was greater compared to the Diamond Princess
(Total reported bumbers on DP was 634 and I believe the ships are similar in size)

What you need to fear is not the ship's AC, but the practices of your fellow passengers and the ship's crew. HEPA filters will not assist you one iota in comparison to the threat from the people.

Agree, until a vaccine is widely deployed no leisure travel will resume. Just essential travel such as air and sea freight.

Agreed, but the conjunctions in the sentence are "and" and not "or". During the day I feel have at least some chance to watch out for yourself, balcony door open, avoiding others around the ship, open air places, only eat the stuff that is not help yourself; but at night, while asleep, door closed and pathogens circulating round and round the ship you have not control at all.

I’d say a fair chance of both!

Many likely won’t need hospital treatment.
Most likely not but if the ship sets sail and takes days to get home then any crew who do require critical care will be in deep trouble.
There are currently 200 of the crew affected by COVID-19.
FWIW in NSW today there are 3 patients in their 30’s in ICU on ventilators.

It seems that what has happened on Ruby has been a particularly virulent virus - so many deaths and many more than Diamond. Are you in a position to comment?

South Australia had many positives from Ruby, over 80. We haven't had any deaths at all but there are 8 in ICU and I wonder if these too, are Ruby Princess victims. Just so tragic.

I think the singalong picture posted in the newspaper today might be the answer. Diamond took it seriously Ruby did not.

It's a pity that the youngsters appear less disciplined than us oldies ( who really don't want to cark it right now)
I was young and bulletproof once.. so I sorta understand.. but it's disappointing allasame

I don't know. The people I've told off for getting too close to me in shops have been men aged 65+. My 30+ sons and DIL are taking it very seriously.
