I was not following David Abel , but sad to see both he and his wife test positive and schlepped off to a hostel with no social media access … hmmm…..
They havent tested positive it seems.

""Sally & I packed and waited 8 hours in the cabin to be transported to a hostel. We are still on the ship!

They do NOT send folk with the virus to a hostel!

Massive communication error yesterday. The Japanese quarantine officials to not speak any English. They came to our door & told us to be ready to be taken to the hostel. My mindset was ‘virus’ and said ‘positive then’. He nodded.
I don’t think he was saying yes to the virus but positive we were moving out??
He followed up by saying it will probably be just 4 or 5 days. You would not say that to a virus victim.
The consulate in Tokyo are being very good with me. I am being listened to and Sally & I feel really well.""

That makes more sense to me. I was puzzled with the supposed positive result because neither of them had reported a fever, they appeared well and had no signs of respiratory difficulties.

Hope they don't rush the dry dock and test it properly afterwards. Was on the first cruise on Coral Princess 2016 after its dry dock and they hadn't pressure tested the water pipes properly. As soon as there was a bit of movement due to wave action the pipe joints opened up and we had waterfalls in the corridors and flooded state rooms etc for more than a week.

Agree, I'd also never take the first cruise after a build. And after our Alaska cruise I will never take a new itinerary either. There are always ünanticipated consequences""" (my new laptop does weird things with my apostrophe and quote buttons)

If there was good news in any of it, at least it was fresh water pipes and not...........😨.
And we met some lovely people on board.

In another change, Sally & David Abel are saying they have tested positive to the virus and are waiting to be moved to a hostel as there are no hospital beds available.

Scotty from marketing is fond of saying they won't be allowed into the country before 4 March. Whether it's legal to deny access to the country to Australian citizens is an interesting question. The NT quarantine in the mining camp may be being achieved under 'national security' laws not health laws*. In which case, I think we all have a lot to be afraid of if they can call anything they like 'national security' and deprive people of their liberty on flimsy excuses like "we're not entirely convinced" that you might not be ill, despite testing negative and passing a health exam before we even let you on the QF evacuation flight.

*At least not under NT Public and Environmental Health Act which would require a public health emergency to be declared before it would be legal to detain anyone. As of yesterday, no such emergency had been declared in NT. IMO it would be a farce to say there was a public health emergency in NT even when the pax arrive.

I believe that Section 35 of The Quarantine Act 1908 does give a relevant person power, especially during this type of event, to order any person into quarantine - regardless of their citizenship. The attached Explanatory Memorandum from 2004 discussing changes to the Quarantine Act after the SARS outbreak also gives a good outline of these powers.

And now they are positive again but there is no room in the hospitals. So it’s off to a hostel for a few days then off to hospital when there is space.

Yes, I posted that twist a few minutes ago. Twists and turns.... it must be very trying on everyone's mental health.

A hostel instead of a hospital because they are not showing any symptoms. Huge increase in number of infections coming up, need to keep hospital beds free.

And, I believe the Commonwealth retains call in powers over (can override) all NT legislation under the NT Self Government arrangements (as NT not a State).

David indicated that it was because no hospital beds are available, and that they will be transferred to a hospital in 4 - 5 days.

He has different information to his High Commission, then.

Strictly speaking, correct in the sense that
(1) no hospital beds are being made available for asymptomatic positives except if there are other potential complications at play, and
(2) he will go to a hospital within the next four to five days irrespective of whether he starts to show symptoms (and hence gets moved to a hospital for treatment) or does not (in which case he will still need to have a health checkup at the hospital).

It’s likely you are correct but he is dealing with people whose first language isn’t English, he’s stressed to the maximum and the communications are getting very muddled.

The Commonwealth can override any State legislation on this sort of matter as well under S. 109 of the Constitution, as far as I am aware.

That's why always better keep your head down in these types of situations and focus rather than worrying about posting on FB...like chinese whispers, the level of misinformation increases exponentially with the number of people following and reposting etc. I do hope they get through ok.
