Yesterday, I organised a last minute trip to SYD and found a dearth of decent hotel rooms in the inner city (other than ones I'd need to remortgage my house to fund).

Ended up at the CP Coodgee but haven't been there before and not sure how best to get there from SYD airport (arriving 8.45pm tonight).

Reticient to catch taxi's as I wouldn't know if they were taking the long way and happy to catch public transport (buses I think I can rule out, trains are good).

Am I correct that there is a train station nearby. Have GPS and only hand luggage.

Any reviews of the rooms and service?

There is no nearby train, probably best public transport option which all seem to take around 50 minutes is this one so a Taxi is looking good:

Rooms are the same as CP Canberra in terms of layout (but with sea views in a lot of cases :D), used to be a HI and have never had much luck with elite recognition, but its a good hotel during wallaby season as they stay there and train down at Coogee oval.

Thanks markis10. Okay, now to find a taxi driver who knows the way. No use going into Central to go back south on Bus.

Hmmm, I wonder what is the best method for getting into the city by 9am tomorrow. Any takers? (I can always check with Concierge).

Just looking forward to a decent nights' sleep, a nice breakfast and lots of points (at $355 Best Flexible - thankfully am using 25% off BF certificate and Breakfast for 2 Certificate, plus if I need to use my $50 Hotel Credit certificate for wi-fi access.

Anybody want to join for me tomorrow at 7.15am :D

Why not try towncars 1300 969304. Got good feedback on here before

Nearest train station would probably be Bondi Junction which I reckon would be a good 8km's,not sure whether there are buses from Coogee to Bondi but there may be,8km's in a taxi is probably about $17.00.
Cheers

Stayed there in Feb 2010 drove myself there. Definitely a taxi ride from the airport. Hotel rooms are OK, a little tired. Stayed in seaview King Suite. Great location opposite the beach, usual CP buffet breakfast with Barista, omelette cooked fresh to order, freshly squeezed juices.
Happy Travels :)

Many thanks RB, Nigelinoz and Princess Fiona. Decided on the taxi option and opened my GPS and he took me almost the same way as it showed.

Got an upgrade to a balcony room and Erin at Front Desk advised there was only 1 room left for sale tonight. She'd obviously had lots of calls looking for rooms tonight and wondered what was o in Sydney tonight (as do I). Happy with being here - now to look at how I am going to get into George Street by 9am tomorrow.

Some options:
1. Bus from Coogee beach to city takes about 35 - 40 minutes. For some buses you need to have purchased a ticket before boarding. You need a Mybus3 ticket, costs $4.30 single ride.
2. Taxi to Bondi junction station and then train to city. Train takes 11 minutes to town Hall station but the taxi ride passes through a number of busy traffic points, probably 15-20 minutes.
3. Taxi to city. expect to take about 30 minutes or more depending on traffic and pay about $30.

Traffic between 8 and 9 can be slow but the buses use a dedicated busway for some of the trip.

mhen, excellent summary and one I'll use - I appreciate you helping me.

Looks like option 1 - I'll be looking to leave before 8am, got 3 enormous meetings starting at 9am.

Get a single Mybus 3 ticket from the local minimart. Walk out onto Arden Street and cross to the beach side. Turn left and head down 30m to the main bus stops opposite McDonalds. Jump on the X74 if possible or the X73. Bus heads into City through Eastern Distributor which is quick and is heading against the traffic when it gets to Elizabeth Street.

I do it most days to work near Darling Harbour.

Another awesome contribution - thank soh. That's why this community really works - helping others when you have the knowledge.

I'm late to the party again. Boozing on with an old mate. If you go down Oxford street I'll wave to you in the morning. I usually try to walk that way to work at about 7 am

I stayed there a few years ago and it wasn't bad there, had a nice room up high with great views of the beach, but I didn't have to travel into city, I was there for a meeting.
Taxi from airport should have been easy, but driver claimed he didn't know how to get there and I had to point it out to him as we were driving towards it - so maybe he really had no idea, or was just ripping me off. Return taxi drive to airport was about half the price on the way in as that driver knew where he was going or was making no attempt to rip me off.

I did catch a bus from central rail station to Coogee CP one day I was there (too complicated to explain why...), wasn't too difficult but did take some time, maybe 20-30 mins? I think that was on a Saturday as well so not too bad off peak.

Sorry not much help for you there.

The view from my room. Lucky I was up before this 744 passed immediately overhead on it's approach to SYD.

Just as I'm writing this, another one passing overhead.

Double bonus!

On the question of keeping cabbies honest you can also take a small GPS with you.

Have a good one!

Thanks Spucegoose - indeed I had my IPhone using whereis mapping the entire journey, waiting for him to slip up, buy he didn't.

For future reference, the mini mart next to McDonalds (and opposite the bus stop) doesn't issue single Mybus 3 tickets (at least I think that's what she said - her english wasn't the best :o). She gesticulated that they were issued around the corner - so being pressed for time, I gave up. So whilst I couldn't get on the X73 or X74 (as they are cashless), my 8.15am all stops to the CBD got me there on time (well, 45 minute bus trip and 5 minute 3 block quick walk from Elizabeth Street, a block after the Sheraton and diagonally opposite St James Station). GAve me a chance to catch up on FB.

Thank you everyone for your input. Valuable to get me there on time and it was an exceptionally good day all round (those on FB know :D)
