Crikey reporting Jetstar grounded 6 aircraft-flight chaos

Report says
Jetstar has grounded five A320s and one A321 apparently because of maintenance issues.
Still waiting on details but if they have grounded them for safety reasons then I would reckon it's better to be safe than sorry
and end up like Tiger:!:
But the devil's in the detail so let's wait and see what the truth is.

No chaos at BNE according to the arrivals schedule, and that last flight of the day has an impressive on time record!

Can only find one cancelled flight this evening AVV-SYD, but everything else seems to be running.

Seems a bit weird that only Crikey is reporting it and there is nothing on Twitter from Jetstar themselves.
I have contacted a LAME friend in the industry to see if he knows anything.

SYD/CHC/SYD Aircraft is U/S so flight is cancelled. (JQ140 and JQ143)
SYD/OOL/SYD Flight is cancelled due to CTMS delays into SYD (JQ408 and JQ411)

SYD/MEL JQ525

Perhaps they have pulled aircraft offline but are managing to keep flights going by repositioning other aircraft? the crikey talk of
"airport chaos" may be urban myth that crikey has reported without checking the facts?
Guess time will tell.

Yep-weird,either the Crikey story has been taken offline so that it can be updated (That was promised originally) or it may have been pulled
alltogether because Crikey have fallen for an urban myth and thought better of it?

There is a follow up story now: Some confusion at Jetstar this morning | Plane Talking

There are some angry tweets in the twitterverse this morning concerning Jetstar flight delays and a lack of information as to the cause, and there are claims being made that Jetstar had grounded six of its single aisle jets which Jetstar has categorically denied.
If this matter can be cleared up this post will be updated. Otherwise, its Friday, and let’s hope your flights are on time.

Well a very LARGE MEA CULPA from me for getting sucked in the first place.
:oops::oops::oops::oops:
Who want's to dish out the punishment?
I'll do anything apart from fly Ryanair:mrgreen: (yeah even Jetstar)

Also interesting to note the "Angry tweets in the twitterverse' line coz I've had a good look and can't find any:!:

I think the only mea culpa you should be consuming consists solely of two words: Ben Sandilands.

I don't know what it is, but it always seems he has a way of posturing himself as a pompous authoritative sycophant who seems to be able to make accusations (true or not true) without adequately backing them up and / or too hastily. His "apology" is not really an acknowledgement of any confusion caused on his part, which could've been crucial.

We can confirm the following:

Late yesterday afternoon we took four A320 aircraft temporarily off-line for maintenance.

As a result two return services were cancelled yesterday.

The aircraft have been serviced overnight and since returned to operation. Tasks completed included testing of batteries of emergency lights onboard the aircraft, sampling of hydraulic fluid and lubrication of door switches.

We have advised CASA and are liaising with them in regards to this.

There was no risk to the safety of the aircraft.

We hope this clarifies the situation.

Cheers,

And again:

Updated and re-titled

Plane Talking has been told that Jetstar discovered yesterday that it had missed some maintenance inspections on six jets, five A320s and one A321, and set about satisfying this requirements, which could be fulfilled in a comparatively short period of time, with as little disruption to its operations as possible. However these inspections did cause some disruption. The missed inspections were not what would be considered a serious or immediate threat to safety, but the fact that they were missed is unsatisfactory

OT: Does this guy have something against the QF group?

I have his email address and will be contacting him, however I have a sense of embarassment for posting the thread without waiting to see the details,I
only add that my intentions were honourable and no malice towards Jetstar was intended,AFF is a news site and as it was news I felt it appropriate to
post it.

And again:...

Exactly my point. There is a big difference between maintenance (whether scheduled or unscheduled) and a grounding. Big difference. You don't just ground an aircraft for hours - you do it for at least days. And the fact they were "missed"? We don't have enough information to establish that, and Ben doesn't have enough to actually prove that these inspections/procedures/checks/maintenance requirements were "missed" (or overlooked, or whatever synonym). If there's anything that JQ could be guilty of then it would be inadequate management of the aircraft around the network to ensure that these 2 flights were not cancelled. However, if the aircraft required maintenance for an incident that could not be reasonably predicted (i.e. it "just happened", not that these aircraft were scheduled for a maintenance check), then I would say there is no guilt and the cancellation of 2 flights is unfortunate.

OT: Does this guy have something against the QF group?

Yes. Like 99.9% of the media. Next question:?:
