I realise this is OT but I thought that the cricket fans on this thread might appreciate a photo & explanation that I saw on my FB page yesterday.

Explanation was " A blast from the past! This is a souvenir belt buckle from 1863, issued to commemorate the second British cricket team that came to Australia that year. Found in the Pilliga."

Interesting. I wonder why it says "The Australian Team" when the names are English. Parr was the captain as I recall and is that EM Grace (WG's brother)? This was around the same time as the first cricket tour of the UK by the Aboriginal team. There's a memorial to that tour in Cootamundra on the Captain's Walk.

But the Pilliga? I used to live in Narrabri for a while and the Pilliga is a vast wilderness of cypress pines. How did it turn up there?

Anything that gets 80-90k to the G is a big deal

Yes the Indians certainly know how to fill a ground and make some noise. I wonder what proportion are locals vs tourists.

India was cruising along at 0-75 but now are 2-79 with Dhawan and Kohli out in pretty rapid succession. 2-79. Very noisy crowd. Looks a spectacle.

So India vs Aus or Pak for the semi - that's win-win for the powers-that-be. Either game would rate itself crazy in India. India considers beating Pakistan more important than the World Cup (and vice-versa probably). Pity Pakistan has never beaten India in a WC game.

Aus-Pak from 230pm in Adelaide today. Pakistan has been there for weeks getting used to it. Aus has to bring their A-game for this one. Could be close or a walkover.

Damian Fleming just cracked a "that ball went so high it earned frequent flyer miles" joke. :) PAK 9-196. 45 overs

After being away from AFF most of the afternoon (it feels like), I have just logged onto cricinfo to see the Pakistani team are scratching their way to a lowish total. Excellent.
Pak 203/9 (46.5 ov, Rahat Ali 3*, Ehsan Adil 8*, SR Watson 0/16) | Live Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

Haddin & Finch both with 3 catches and Hazlewood 4 wickets. Looks like a good decision to bring him into the team.

This commentary brought a chuckle:

29.1 93.6 kph, what have you done Umar Akmal? This is a long hop at the Adelaide Oval with short square boundaries. Akmal has enough time to pause, do a quick opinion poll on where to hit this in the stands, and then take a selfie before hitting it.

All out 213.

49.5Faulkner to Ehsan Adil, OUT

Ehsan Adil c Starc b Faulkner 15 (22b 1x4 0x6) SR: 68.18

Unbelievable that until this last over, the Pakistanis hadn't hit a boundary for 9 overs.

Now the Aussies should be a shoe-in. I predict a 5 wicket win

A pretty good summation of the Australian bowling attack:

5.33pm The Australian bowlers have done their job. Some excellent aggressive bowling from them. Starc is back on top of the tree. Hazlewood has proven his line and length is a better pick than coughmins in a team of two other express quick bowlers. Johnson has shown signs of the return of some of the menace. Maxwell produced two crucial wickets in the middle. Faulkner was exceptional in the batting Powerplay and in the end. When Watson bowls five overs for 17 and is the least talked about, you know the attack is doing a lot of things right. They have now taken 59 wickets out of the 60 available to them

I've been following the game during the afternoon using a variety of methods including cricinfo, ICC World Cup phone app, Foxtel coverage, Channel 9 coverage and ABC radio. Some of the Pakistan batsmen played some great shots but couldn't string together any good partnerships. I look forward to following the rest of the game.

The run chase has started.

0.3
Sohail Khan to Warner, FOUR

I'll be driving home listening to it... :D

Why on earth did Finch think the decision should be reviewed.Plumb.
