I couldn't see a thread on the World Cup Cricket so I thought I would start one.

New Zealand won the first game and Australia are doing well so far in their game against England. There are over 90,000 people at the MCG. I wish I was there with them. Has anyone seen an official gate figure for the game?

I think Australia will do well in the World Cup but it will be really difficult for us to win. No hosting country has ever won the Cricket World Cup. Perhaps we can put an end to that pattern. (Sorry, I got that bit wrong, see my correction below)

Please let us know your feelings on cricket and share any stories if you end up going to any of the games. I'd also enjoy stories from previous Cricket World Cup competitions.

I think Australia stands a great chance. Then New Zealand who don't play a game outside NZ until the final if they make it.

Maybe the games in NZ means Australia isn't the true host country? :p

And a hat trick in the WC!

Excellent innings by Australia. 9/342

Actually I was wrong about the hosting/winning issue. India won the 2011 final after co-hosting the tournament with Sri Lanka(runners up) and Bangladesh. This was the first time it had happened that a host or a co host had won.

Australia won their first game against England. There was some controversy over the last wicket and I don't fully understand exactly what happened but I think we would have won anyway so the decision at the end didn't really affect the end result of the game.

Bloody disgrace the call to end game when clearly a dead ball! Someone in control room should have told them to PLAY BALL!
YES we would have won but just not cricket..... The batsman had stats to his name..... That are ruined in the history books now!!!!

The last wicket should not have stood but was irrelevant for the result in the end. Such a shame for Taylor, a great innings in amongst the rest of the cough. A typical England one day display of late. Inept bowling with a batting lineup that cannot function as a unit, only as individuals. I almost made the call to fly from SYD for this late last week but thankfully common sense kicked in and I watched it from the sofa.

It's a bit like Tennis. Once a linesman/ump makes a decision, the point stops there. So anything after is irrelevant.

Not true ... a bastman given out can be recalled by captain of the fielding team.

Not this mob ... win at any cost ... it's $$$ that rule, not credibility ... been that way since the late 70's ...

I see the ICC has issued a statement acknowledging a mistake was made by the umpires and Anderson should not have been given out as the ball was dead following the lbw decision.

Good job it didn't occur in a closer game where the result could have been affected.

Surely between 3 umpires and a match official they would get that right. Seemed fairly obvious. Beefy knew what he was talking about in the commentary box!

Ironically Taylor's innings will now be a part of cricket trivia nights for decades to come, if he had have made his ton nobody would remember anything!

Question will go which Englishman....... Like the Australian that sells airconditioners?

Today's India v Pakistan will be the most watched cricket match ever. One in 7 people around the world (or 1 billion Indians and Pakistanis) will be watching.

Cool change sweeping through. From 38 - 26 in a few minutes. Stormy though.

At my place we only have free-to-air TV so I missed the IND v PAK game so I use the iPhone Cricket app by Cricket Australia for all the details.

One nice feature that I use is the worm which gives constant access as compared to television access whom show it when they choose.

Here is the screenshot of the worm from SAF vZIM. What a game that must have been to be ahead on runs and wickets for all that time to see it all collapse in the last few overs.

Even more tragically I found the ICC website with some reasonable coverage but website navigation is not to my liking. They do however have a constant stream of Hawk-eye in which you can select balls by over. Cool. Go to the website for the animated view of the balls that the West Indies were hurling at the Irish batsman in Over 2 of the Irish batting

Unbelievable that with the digital channels we cant see more games on FTA (Gem, Go etc).

I'd been listening on ABC radio to the India-Pakistan game and I could hear the crowd was huge and loud. Went in to watch the last few overs of the Indian innings on TV to find it wasn't even on! Couldn't believe it. Even with three channels Nein couldn't find a slot over their usual dross on GEM and GO. Parochial or what? I can understand not showing every game as there is some conflict and perhaps Afghanistan vs Scotland might not win the ratings (although I'd have a look) but the biggest rivalry in world cricket goes unwatched by the majority in Australia?

And in today's game the Windies managed over 300 (like all five teams who batted first this WC) after being 5 for not much. However Ireland are currently 2/265 with 12 overs to go so look like they could cause a minor upset (face it, the Windies are not what they used to be).

Lookslike they pulled it off. Just looking at the cricket app...I notice IRL lost 4 for 18 in scoring their last 18 runs. nail bitter.....

I am getting excited....next Sat AUS v SRL, return of Clark, going to be a big afternoon at the Gabba. And Mrs Albatross says she was underwhelmed with her Valentine's gift. hmmp...She gets a ticket to one of the hottest games and just doesn't appreciate it. I just don't understand romance.

I would have loved a ticket to any Cricket World Cup game as a Valentines Day present. I didn't get one but I really enjoyed the presents I did get.

AUS vs BAN you mean. AUS vs SL is at the SCG on 8 March. Tried to get tickets but it was sold out a while back. Now looking at ENG vs AFG! At least the 'minor' games have cheap tickets. Best seats in the house are $40. Compare that with nearly $100 to sit in the outer at a Test match.
