I am just wondering how many others have had experiences similar to what I have encountered recently.
While I wont mention the airlines involved but lets just say they are both Australian and I was travelling business class on both.

On two occasions, the meal was missing a dessert and after looking around it appears no one else got one either.
It was odd because I had this meal before and knew what the dessert was.
One passenger asked about it and the crew member looked blank and mentioned it may not have been loaded or may have changed as they often do.

So later in the flight I go to the toilet and what did I see..............yes, the crew were filling their bags with lovely sweet treats.
On the second flight I saw the same thing as I passed through the galley.

As a consultant I pay for my flights myself so when I pay for business class which in turn employs these thieves and get swindled like this naturally it pisses me off.

So I am wondering, is this an ongoing drama I haven't yet discovered or have I just had two remote and isolated incidents?

I would be reporting this to the airline involved via private feedback with the flight details and crew names (if you remember them). I imagine this would lead to a mystery shopper type check and they would be quickly fired if caught.

Cabin crew for both the Australian airlines that offer business class get paid very well for the hours they work and should not need to resort to stealing rich, heavy meals.

I know a girl who is cabin crew for JQ and her pantry looks like the galley....

Given that you've identified that the airline(s) were Australian, that really only gives 3 possibilities; maybe 2 and more realistically maybe only 1. So let's not beat around - we know which airline it must be.

That all said, what do you mean filling their bags with sweet treats? That to me speaks that the flight must've been domestic, as most Business class meal desserts on international flights (of the Australian airlines mentioned) have plated desserts; probably not something you can stash into a bag, let alone en masse.

The Business class "dessert" on most other flights except for coast-to-coast would then probably be a chocolate, but from memory most of the flights on the major domestics in Business have a plated dessert as well. Given that it's usually a cake (and one of them is often a cake which has cream on it), again I can't see how you could just stash these in a bag. (The chocolate on one of the airlines' trays is usually used as the "foil" for tea or coffee service; for the other, the chocolates usually come as a standard prepack in a signed box).

I'm not sure if crew meals (which, as far as I have been told for one airline, are the same as Business class passenger meals but are supplied and maintained separate to passenger meals) have sweet treats / desserts on them, so could they be stashing their "treat" away - don't know. That said, unless the crew meals were somehow disparately prepared by the caterer, I don't see how they could get desserts that the passengers did not get. (I am also assuming that none of the Business passengers got desserts - it wasn't just you who missed out).

The second theory is the blind obvious you mentioned, which is that the crew are swiping the desserts / sweets. I don't know if other members can attest to their experiences whether this is happening, but in any case you would do well to write a stern email to the airline(s) involved.

Hmm, how many Australian airlines offer business class?

While they may not have been your desserts that were being taken, it still doesn't sound right. I would suggest feedback to the airlines.

If you are talking about domestic ops, technically 3;)

Yes, don't forget crew get their own meals on the flight which are different to passenger meals (as in the choice) and have different things loaded (and we do get cakes/sweets etc).

Also our meals differ to what you may be served. For example on a AUS-LAX the passenger meals are Lunch/Breakfast. The crew meals loaded would be Lunch/Dinner (and we get a breakfast allowance instead).

A interesting experience though. What sector was this on??

Yes I factored the crew get meals, however on both these experiences I had the same meals before so knew exactly what's on the tray previously.
Second, there were 5 crew and there were alot more like 10-12 desserts I saw going into that bag.

I mentioned this to mate today who just sent me a pic of his housemate's (who is a flight attendant) stash and it was a massive stash of alcohol and snacks, so I am guessing this isn't as isolated as I thought.
While it may not be the majority, it seems more stories are emerging of this practice.
Next time I see this I am taking pics and writing a letter.

jad01, do you mind if I ask you for a description of the stolen desserts or sweet treats, if that's not too incriminating?

I'm just interested to find out how you could fit 10-12 desserts of Business quality into a bag (handbag, plastic bag - whatever, still difficult).

I'm not sure why you're waiting for the next time, I'd be contacting the airline and providing flight details etc if you really saw them stashing 12 desserts intot a bag and pax were asking about them.

I'm confused with the suggestion that there are crew who find the dessert desirable!
If it was QF domestic east coast J, the deserts have been awful rock hard cakes recently. Nothing worth eating let alone pilfering!

That was typed on my phone, so I blame that. Yes. That.

I have seen AA flight attendants loading their bags with everything they can get their hands on - bottles of alcohol etc. On one occasion when they saw me they offered me some too. I declined as was changing terminals in JFK and due to the USA fear of liquids in hand baggage would have had everything confiscated!
