Hopefully you have selected seats on the left on Comair I.e A or C? Unless it’s changed since we last flew them they have 2 seats on the left and 3 on the right and they generally fill all 3 of unless it’s an empty flight. Quality of planes vary but the domestic lounges make up for it

Durban is where I grew up - the common wisdom was it was generally 10 years behind Joburg and Cape Town
Yes it’s a terrific new airport and good roads. It was as much attitudes as anything else - Durban always seemed to take a long time to catch up.Would have to agree @Flying mermaid. Durban does seem to have grown since my last visit (2015) and King Shaka seems to be a decent airport.
