A couple of slow days filling in time before meeting up with the Wife in CPT :L

Today we went down the South Coast to Wild Coast Sun part of the Sun City group. Well if you're not into casinos etc it may be a waste of a drive. Although it's always good to see other parts of the country.

Off we go heading back down to the coast from High Flats

Realistically this place is set up for onsite visitors. We were hoping maybe find a sports bar looking over the beach and have a few beers and a steak

We ended up at a little bar ( I know shock horror ) down by the river but still on the property. We spent an hour or so just relaxing and having a few quiet ones.

All in all a good day out. Not a lot was achieved but I have seen more of the area. I think in future I could book a week down the South Coast and explore the district further. The freeways are great so driving distance is easy, especially for a boy from Central Queensland. I just wouldn't waste my time at the Casino. There are plenty of natural attractions around here. Oribi Gorge was one mentioned to me.

Had a great time at that casino when it first opened. I can remember several ‘durbanites’ Around the pool with their pet monkeys on leashes..and I remember the tables being particularly generous and Windhoek is a great drop

love the Qld jersey. I was so welcomed in durban on my first trip. Mark Loane ( our great aussie lock) was in sud africa studying for his ophthalmology exams and played for the sud africian barbarians against the apartheid breaking English Rose union team. He scored the winner try after full time siren and I was shouted many Castle and Lion lagers because "of course I know Mark - we're from the same uni!"

Apartheid Breaking? Surely you mean Apartheid enabling? I was up to my boots in protests against the English team in Joburg - must find a photo. (This was in spite of being a friend of Andy Ripley’s).

Agree but they were marketed locally as breaking...certainly in DURBAN at the time

We loved our stay in the Drakensburgs.Only had a normal car no 4x4 so the pass was out.
But we cheated-got a helicopter to the top not far from Tugela falls-which is what we really wanted to see.but the views were incredible.

Thought of you in the QF J lounge this afternoon about 4.30 when the flight to Emerald was called. :)

Depends on who is saying it really. :) You wouldn't have found any anti apartheid people (white or black) agreeing with that in any part of South Africa.

This is a news cutting from the Lions tour in 1974. The security police were all over everything, so no way a conventional protest would happen. We came up with the idea of a mobile protest - put someone in the Lions hotel to let us know when the bus was moving and a small protest accompanied it. It was pretty scary actually, as White rugby fans didn't take it kindly.... (and no more politics after this to spoil the report).

Great photo. I was not an apologist. Just an observer. Plus I was ‘working’ in a ‘blacks hospital’ at the time.

Kind of thinking maybe it was Apartheid boycott breaking, which would make more sense. Fantastic that you were working ina black hospital - well done!

Thanks mate. King Edward in Durban. Absolutely amazing..rabies, cholera, tetanus etc etc. this trip back was to show my wife and 4 daughters the places I went 38 years ago(and a few that where on ‘the bucket list’) and it was as great as the first time! And the updated profile photo is of the oldest guy on Kilimanjaro reaching the summit successfully

So you only went to the border of Lesotho and then went back? Is the only interesting thing about Lesotho the actual scenic drive to get there?

He was definitely a fantastic lock and a great Qld Captain from memory

FWIW, that was a serious question..........we go to JNB once a year because our son lives there now, so I'm interested to know if Lesotho offers enough to warrant a visit.

Have WiFi again briefly  I only went to the border and drove a few kms down the very good highway before turning back and having lunch while taking in the views at Sani Mountain Lodge. So only grabbed a few passport stamps and really not qualified to comment on Lesotho. I wouldn't rule out a return to have a decent look in the future.
