Lambie says minister is ‘missing in action’ over Djokovic

Tasmanian senator Jacqui Lambie accused Immigration Minister Alex Hawke being missing in action over the Novak Djokovic saga and called on the federal MP to make a decision.
Appearing on Nine’s Today show earlier, Lambie said: “So maybe it’s about time to stop this debacle, finish it once and for all.

“Make up your mind, Alex Hawke, and where are you? Missing in action? Make a decision,” the independent senator said.
“If you can’t make a decision on Novak Djokovic, goodness me, how are you guys running the country? This is an absolute shambles. Let alone what it’s making us look like in the face of the rest of the world. It’s absolutely a shocker.”"

Reports that Serbia has issued Novax a diplomatic passport so he doesn't need a visa??

Update - he was given a diplomatic passport by Serbia in 2011. It appears someone has conveniently remembered that.
Still needs a visa to go with it for Australia, and like most other visa types, it can only be applied for outside of the country and be endorsed for certain purposes. This page gives some guidance at section 4.6:

Which he didn't use to enter so it's seemingly irrelevant?

I've agreed with a few of her rants lately and they are by and large directed at all colours of politics 😉

Immigration Minister Alex Hawke has used his personal power to cancel Novak Djokovic’s visa, as his lawyers prepare to file an immediate injunction against the decision.

The move has thrown the world tennis no.1’s quest for a 10th Australian Open into turmoil with the tournament to begin on Monday. If he doesn’t challenge the decision in the courts or is unsuccessful in doing so, he will be immediately deported from the country.

Mr Hawke late on Friday afternoon said:

“Today I exercised my power under section 133C(3) of the Migration Act to cancel the visa held by Mr Novak Djokovic on health and good order grounds, on the basis that it was in the public interest to do so.

“This decision followed orders by the Federal Circuit and Family Court on 10 January 2022, quashing a prior cancellation decision on procedural fairness grounds.

“In making this decision, I carefully considered information provided to me by the Department of Home Affairs, the Australian Border Force and Mr Djokovic.

“The Morrison Government is firmly committed to protecting Australia’s borders, particularly in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

So, what does that mean now?

Firstly, it means Djokovic, the No 1 men’s tennis player in the world, is banned from Australia for three years.

The cancellation issued by Hawke is classified as an adverse decision under section 133C(3), which means Djokovic cannot be granted another visa while offshore for the three years.

There are exceptions granted in “certain circumstances,” and the Serbian star is sure to appeal the decision, so that may come into play in the coming days.”

He should get the message he is not welcome and go, as apparently two other players with shakey exemptions have done since Renata Voracova and that official did.
