Hi All,

I know this isn't a flight related question but this is proving to be a great source of travel related queries, so here goes!

We're travelling to the UK for December and I would love to catch an opera at Covent Garden. Having never been before, I'm not sure how hard it is to get tix? I see that the tix go on sale in July but wonder if it si worth spending the extra to become a 'friend', and therefore have early access to ticket sales.

I'm sure it's a very different experience to the often half empty auditoriums here for opera, so any andvice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Rob,

You should find that there are tickets available for most productions after the Friends' booking periods are finished. It depends very much on the price band you are looking for. The seats in the Amphitheatre tend to go fairly quickly whilst there are usually seats available in the Orchestra Stalls and Stalls Circle very close to the performance date. If you are looking to attend a production which is likely to be very popular then joining the Friends may be a good idea. I have been a Friend for several years and have found it beneficial when booking but I make a couple of trips a year. I note that Traviata and Meistersinger are likely to be performed whilst you are there. I don't think that either of these would sell out quickly but if you want any further help or information please PM me. Meistersinger is in a later booking period than Traviata.

Rob,

I do not expect that you will have any problems booking on line if you hop onto it as soon as it becomes available.

No doubt you would like to make this one of the highlights of you trip so you may like to consider the following suggestions.

If you can make a party of four, grabbing a Box, although they are not the best seats in the house, is a fun thing and do not cost an arm or a leg too.

Champagne is not served in the box so I do not think this option is worthwhile.

However, what I do recommend is you pre-book dinner in The Balconies Restaurant at the same time you make the tickets booking.

All you need to know including tickets, eating and other experiences is on the ROH site.

Sorry, unable to include link but looks like you have already found it.

Hope you enjoy your visit.

Regards,
