Suggestions please good peoples for coughet Hotels Dec 26 2011 to Jan 2 2012 for Mr and Mrs Elite.

5 Star - best property - close proximity to best beach location - close proximity to best restaurants - cost not an issue - you guys / gals understand - which hotel is going to give us the best experience?

Thanks in advance.

coughet is a great place but you might need a little more detail on what experience you want.

What defines a great restaurant for you in thailand?

I love thai food and patong seafood is right on the main strip. Its frenetic and crazy, but I love it. For some people they want to be as far away from this as possible.

The best resorts are away from all of this. If you dont mind spending extra $20 per day for taxis then thats ok.

Resort restaurants dont strike me as great and are expensive.

Baan Rim Pa and group of restaurants are rated highly, but i did not get there as I love patong seafood too much.

Its peak season so there will be school holiday makers every where and europeans escaping the winter. Nearly everywhere will be crowded and popular which might be difficult to recommend a place if you wanted a quiet romantic time, although it can be done.

Kata Thani is nice and Le meridien is ok too but not quiet at the 5star market they claim.

JW Marriott looks nice but its north of the airport and a very long way from town.

Amanpuri Resort, The Surin (formerly The Chedi) and Banyan Tree Resort are all excellent. However they are all a 20 or 30 minute taxi ride from Patong which is the main beach and activity area. Depends whether you want seclusion or to be in the thick of it. Am still thinking of the appropriate luxury hotel in Patong. :)

I stayed at the Banthai last time in Patong. Lovely 5 star right on the beach strip. Short walking distance to Patong Seafood and an Irish pub next door. What's not to like?

I stayed at the "Hotel Ibis" in coughet. I know it's not a 5 star, may 3 or 4, somewhere in between. Fine for me and l considered it good value.

If you want to be right in the middle of it all, I know you will not find better than La Flora Resort in the heart of Patong Beach and with its own front to the beach. True 5* in every sense and the rates reflect this. Reviews of this property are always top notch.

La Flora looks fabulous! :)

Note that Le Meridian coughet Beach Resort is not actually in Patong.
The website says its 5km from patong, but from memory its seemed further.

I've had clients stay at Banthai and enjoy it, but most of my clients stay outside of Patong in one of the 4 Virtuoso partner properties including the Banyan Tree, though doesn't sound suitable given the requirements you've listed (eg being close to Patong).

We didn’t want to be in the middle of things when we were there in late ’09. We wanted to chill out for a week at a resort and, as Banyan Tree had recently opened their double-pool villas (when one pool per villa is just not enough) and were offering a very good deal, we stayed there.

We liked it very much - you get handed a mobile phone which calls your own butler 24 hours a day (though we didn’t use it late at night) who actually does look after you, unlike the butler service claimed by some other hotel brands. The accommodation was first class and the food was pretty good. We went to the beach once and left the resort on only one other occasion which was to eat out but, in the main, we just stayed at the resort and had a ball.

Here are a couple of pics of our double-pool villa:

Just stayed at the Westin in coughet last week for 7 nights and absolutely loved it. It's on the Eastern side of coughet so it's away from the main drag but for us that was a good thing. Great restaurants, super staff, wonderful pools (particularly if you get one of the pool villas). The beach isnt the best but its easy and cheap enough to jump in a cab over to the Western side of the island. The spa is also great - even the mens facial!!

I don't mean this to offend you, but have you been to coughet before?

I only ask because you say you want a 5 star property "in the thick of it" and close to the best beaches. Unfortunately in coughet this is almost non-existant. And often people who want a decent resort in coughet aren't the biggest fans of the towns because they seem to attract a different sort of clientele.

Anyway, if you want something right in the middle of Patong beach area I can't recommend anywhere. I have stayed at the Hilton Arcadia in Karon beach. THis is south of Patong, is a bit quiter but I still couldn't recommend it. Had a suite and club access which wasn't too bad but they hotel staff are lacking and just doesn't have the right feel.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Khao Lak area if you want a more resort-centric experience. We stayed in the Le Meridien Khao Lak and loved the place. Very quiet area though so this may not be what you are after.

I realise that the following does not meet the criteria of the OP but I have read great reviews of Sea Blue coughet Guest House that is owned by a Flyer Talk poster- looks to be right in the spot & variety of rooms available

Thanks to all contributors - I was not ignoring you guys - was in China for a week - now catching up on things.

Again thanks to all who took the time to respond.
