Why shouldn't there be negative posts?

After all, currently first class on AA between ORD & NYC earns 90 SC's whereas next month it will only earn 40 SC's.

Even the great serfty will admit KUPs/YUPs have been extremely generous for a long time.

I am not surprised they have been reviewed. Iam surprised it has taken this long. Platinum status for <AUD2,000 is a joke.

So the status runs on AA on instant upgrades is no longer the "Rainbow" it once was?

You assume that everyone has been travelling on those discounted fares.

I never said everyone.

There was a loophole to easy status. It is no longer there. Don't blame Qantas for removing the loophole.

I agree, and there must have been a cost to Qantas arising from such significant loopholes. I agree that there is no value in QF rewarding passengers with high status when their spend is only a couple of thousand dollars a year. Whereas these major loopholes have now disappeared there must still be opportunities to look at strategies about maximising SC earn at a reasonable cost.

And there was no need whatsoever for QF to do it the way they have. QF only needed to do one thing. Increase the amount of ~ flights required.

There are still many opportunities to earn SCs cheaply. If you can somehow combine it with a planned trip then even better.

It's not a loophole - is a program feature. It is now being changed.

Imagine the bleating here if QFF did away with the one World awards without notice ... Just like AA did recently with the AAdvantage equivalent.
.. Platinum status for <AUD2,000 is a joke.

Don't know of anyone who earned WP for a total expenditure of under $2000 in the last decade.

There's those pesky positioning and four ~ flights to pay for ...

$3000 maybe ....

I beg to differ... There are still a few routes that come and go that offer Platinum for ~$2k. Just nowhere near as many as before, and far more dynamic WRT to seasonality and timing of ticketing/actual flights. There are a few recent threads with some insights, albeit with some simple encoding to ensure they're not so obvious to be re-enhanced yet again.

And JohnK, I also don't blame QF for enhancing this feature of their partner earn, in fact I'm surprised it's taken them this long. I've been exploiting this feature for several years now (credit to Serfty for originally getting me started) and I will continue to do so for another couple of years til I hit LTG.

I have already given up on Oneworld awards. I am taking the vouchers.

P.S. I don't regard the ability to earn ~1000 SCs for ~USD1000 as an expected feature of the QFF program. And even if I did that feature is now gone.

It was fun while it lasted. The challenge is now there to find something similar or expect to pay more.

If there is a way to WP for $3k then feel free to share that method with me serfty! As a newbie I'd welcome any tips.

There's an even cheaper way. In fact, it will cost you so much less than serfty's method.... all you have to do is send $500 to the desk of Mr Gavin Ngirguaga in Nigeria to receive your Platinum status.

Also, you could just fly a lot for business and your company pays for all your flights and you get WP for free.

:D

Touché Mr Orange. As they say, if it's too good to be true... But I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

3500-3600 miles earns 20% more SC's, and good luck finding a route in that mileage zone!

KUL-ADL is ~3530... oh wait :)

In the other thread I actually posted the only three oneworld routes that exist within those distances and they're all quite obscure (for an AU resident). Probably best to stick with intra-Asia on CX & MH.

Maybe one day you'll be able to provide a rational explanation for why you consider extra flights combined with a holiday acceptable, but "purer" status runs unacceptable, unethical, and unforgivable.

I never said what I did was acceptable. I have always been up front and said I cheat my way to status. I also do a lot of flying though which means nothing in the grand of scheme of things.

That does not mean I agree with Any seat awards earning SCs, nor double SC offers.
