Given the much discussed changes to QFF from 1 July, has your view about the cost and value of a SC changed? Threads through late 2013 & early 2014 suggest $10/SC is about average in AU, $4-5/SC should be considered good value and you might get around $2/SC on some sectors in the US & Asia. Is this still the case, or do the definitions for "average", "good" and "excellent" need a rethink?

Mods: Sorry if this thread (or similar) already exists, I did a search and couldn't find one specifically discussing value of SC post 1 July and I felt it was a different discussion to the "heads up about program changes thread".

I can´t work out the new rules for SC earn on partner airlines.

I frequently do BNE or SYD to SCL (Santiago), on either QF or LAN metal, but normally on a LAN issued ticket. It appears from the table that ¨east coast Australia to South America¨ in business is only 80 SC, and ¨east coast Australia to NZ¨is 40. There is no specification for ¨NZ to South America¨, so using the table an AKL to SCL sector (6000miles) would attract 140 SC . So if I fly LAN from SYD to SCL via AKL that earns me 140+40 = 180 SC, but if I fly QF metal direct SYD-SCL on a LAN codeshare ticket it gets me 80 SC? Is this correct? Anyone?

Red Roo probably has his or hands tied do to speak, so can't blame him or her...
But I must rant...
I absolutely hate it, the way QF has ditched my chances of getting to PS easily without spending extra $.
I have list faith in QF, and have given up on QF.
My business now goes to VA.
Will keep QF QC but less ill he spent on that card.
One small salve, QP must be better a bit than VA's the Lounge.

Everything is halved after Jul on partner airlines.
Fly on QF flight nos from now on.
I think #2, it's half, after Jul flying LA flight nos.
Can you fly QF BNE to SYD, EK with a QF flight no, then LA from AKL?
I think too that EK is exemp from the cuts, I might be wrong here.
80 in J SYD to AKL, + 40 from BNE to SYD us 120.

You don't get SC on EK codes anyway. Never have. You get points on EK codes, you have to book on the QF codeshare to get SC.

Yair, EK metal but with a QF flight number of course.
Personal analogy here: but I do love and I mean love any wide bodies (planes), and will pick that if I can, absolutely.
QF's "partner" Jetconnect does not have any wide bodied planes from AU to NZ, so if at anytime I can, I will pick EK with QF flight number, or NZ flight numbers to fly with. NZ flights earn less, with an NZ flight number, as a VR member. 0.25 points per mile flown, but wide body plane, droll...

With my flying I am able to get <$10/SC most of the time. I try not to purchase the expensive non-sale airfares and generally plan my overseas holidays during this time.

With flying in Asia on Oneworld partners I have been to achieve $3/SC-$4/SC but I think those days are over. One would be more likely to expect ~$5/SC which is still good value in my opnion.

I've calculated a few routes that occasionally cost $1.70-2.00/SC pre and post July 1st. Mostly intra-Asia flights. Have flown some myself. =]

Everything is halved after Jul on partner airlines.

I am usually not the biggest supporter of QF, but to say "everything is halved after Jul on partner airlines", is a bit misleading. If you on a "Competing with QF" route they have halved. True. Short haul F on AA is lower (but not halved). Flights <250 miles have halved. But, for many status runs people do/did, they did not always involve flying partners on a route that competes with QF. So before & after the changes, on quite a few routes where QF has no presence, the earn is the same, give or take a little bit (eg TPE-HKG-BKK in J, 100 SCs now, 100 SCs after June 30).

Apart from competitive routes, the reduced earn applies to <250 miles (1/2), 600-750 miles (2/3), 1200-1500 miles (75%), 2400-2500 miles (80%), 4800-5000 miles (86%), 5800-6500 miles (87.5%), and sectors >7000 miles (67%-89%). With one very small window of increased earn (how did they let that one slip through.) ... 3500-3600 miles earns 20% more SC's, and good luck finding a route in that mileage zone!

Given the noise you make AP I'm surprised to hear your at the lower end of the status ladder.

This is good to hear. Most posts have been overwhelmed by the vitriol against the changes - rather than a constructive approach about how to analyse opportunities to achieve or maintain status. I agree that intra Asia flights on OW will still be good value from a cost per status credit point - and will still allow us to benefit from reasonably priced J fares and one way fares. You just have to be careful to factor in the cost of either getting to an Asian port or diverting to one to gain these benefits. Denpasar can be a good launching point to get cheap fares and value for status credits - as long as you can get a cheap flight in from Darwin - or a JQ special form other ports. Time is an issue - but like all things that's about planning and priorities. I am looking forward to hearing about the best strategies to maximise status credits - hopefully more of this will feature once we are finished with all the negative posts about QF's changes.

Why shouldn't there be negative posts?

After all, currently first class on AA between ORD & NYC earns 90 SC's whereas next month it will only earn 40 SC's.

I think there are enough threads already for bagging QF over the changes. QF have made the changes - some may be modified with time - and I am sure that debate will continue. What I am interested in to see how you can use the changed system to maintain and attain status. One of the currently difficulties is that all changes are not yet clear - and I am looking forward to learning from the knowledge skills and experiences form other members about how to make the most of the changed system.
