Cost benefit analysis

2019 has been my year of generally seeing the evils of many of the loyalty programs unless there is a significant personal benefit. Here is an example that irked me in the inbox today from Caltex

It's simple!
1. Download the Caltex Australia App (iOS or Android)
2. Create a Caltex Australia Account adding a valid form of payment
3. Add your Woolworths Rewards card
4. Pay for fuel purchases via FuelPay in App.
Plus, you can earn 3x points on your fuel purchases made via the app until Tuesday, 31st December.*

1. Download the App. Puts Caltex in charge of being able to ping the user with offers and maybe location tracking.

2. Form of payment!!!! Pus Caltex in the position of power by having all of your name, address plus your payment details on their files ready to bill you.

3. Great, link it to Woolworths so both Caltex and Woolworths can be tracking, modelling and influencing spending habits

4. Pay for Caltex fuel purchases limits competition from other suppliers.

Yes, there are some additional points on offer provided you meet all of the above but they are finished by 31/12/19 after which Caltex is in the driving seat.

I'll take a punt and believe that I can save a lot more by using Motormouth and buying when and where I wish.

Yes, I'm sure their are privacy safeguards but the cost of the buying access to my phone is far great than a few weeks of bonus points.
