Hi All

Bought a Circle the Pacific fare via Qantas premium, and now have been told by JAL it's not Upgradable for their leg (using JAL Mileage Bank). Spoke with Qantas Premium team, and they said they are not sure why, and that I should contact OneWorld.

Any ideas on this, and how I can resolve the issue? Not keen on 11hours in cattle, with JAL already telling me I cant get a window seat (saying they do not recognise my Emerald Status too!).

Riverman.

Without re-reading the fare rules (been a couple of years) this seems in line with what I would expect or the upgrade. Seating wise I think HUCA is your best bet.

If some-one at Qantas told you to contact 'oneworld' then they were effectively telling you to sod off. No-one at 'oneworld' could help you, even if you could reach 'them'.

If you bought the ticket through Qantas, they should provide the advice.

What class and which carrier is the ticket booked.
I would assume JL would require the JL code (and not a QF codeshare at a minimum), but possibly 'L' is not an upgradeable bucket

this is the rub... it's a JL flight, not a codeshare. Additionally, from what Q Premium are telling me, there is only one type of One World Circle The Pacific Fare.... the other legs (CBR>SYD>DFW>SLC>LAX are all upgradable.

What do you mean by "Bought via Qantas premium"?
Is this a Circle Pacific fare? https://www.oneworld.com/flights/multi-continent-fares/circle-pacific

flights on oneworld products are only upgradeable subject the the rules of the frequent flyer program in question. (eg, you can only upgrade QF flights with QFF points and only when QF operated and coded)
To upgrade a JAL flight, you need a valid JAL "upgrade instrument" (eg, points) and the booking class (L,D,A) needs to be upgradeable on JAL.

It was bought on the phone via Qantas Premium 131313 (Platinum). Yes, agreed, only upgrading with JAL Mileage bank. Sorry if I didnt make that clear in the original post. I have plenty of JAL points, it's a JAL flight (not Qantas Flight Number).

Yes, thats the One World Circle The Pacific ..

rather redundant then..only being able to upgrade FROM business, which is my desired class..... cant upgrade to business on the JAL flight, but all other flights I can... very disappointing Qantas and One World, especially not disclosing this at the time of purchase.

Bizarre that there are many many upgradable econ tickets available via a purchase with JAL direct. They seem to be penalising the One World Fare (where Qantas dont).

Try booking in L on CX ... and crediting to AAdvantage.

Awarded no miles in the past.

Anyone with JL points would know they are extremely limited in fare classes to upgrade from..

And the RTW fares are only ever in L..

I'd be putting the blame on JL.

Sorry to be blunt but this isn't a Qantas problem. If you're planning to use another carrier's points program to upgrade a flight on said carrier as part of a Oneworld fare, the onus is on you to ensure it can be done prior to booking the itinerary with Qantas.
