Hi Group, I asking for feedback on the following Done4 leaving from PER july 29.

The AMM stop is to try and see Petra, anyone done that? hoe long to get down there and back? summer??
 
After you have done AMM and Petra then write up a trip report.

One of the most interesting stops now that Royal Jordian has been included in Oneworld is that you can now include places like AMM and Cairo.
 
I'm no expert in this area unfortunately but one option to increase SCs maybe to fly HEL-BKK-NRT-PER. This will earn an extra 60 SCs but the downside is you'll be on a coughpy old 767 on a night flight from NRT to PER, as opposed to a skybed from HKG to PER.

Also, to get an extra leg of first SCs, perhaps fly JFK-LAS-LAX-ORD. My understanding is JFK-LAX is a three class service meaning you'll end up in J but JFK-LAS is a two class so you'll get first SCs.
 
3 possible problems.Is SYD-JFK considered just 1 segment(I know it is for SC earn but for segment count on DONE?)
Does SYD-JFK plus JFK-LAX run foul of this condition-
"(k) Within the USA/Canada only one nonstop or single plane service transcontinental flight permitted. A
transcontinental flight is defined as travel between a city in column A and a city in column B.

SYD-JFK on QF107 does indeed count as only 1 sector towards the total. If you flew QF11 to LAX (say to get the A380) then swapped to QF107 LAX-JFK, then it would count as 2 sectors.

Similarly, SYD-JFK does not count as the transcontinental. Nice little means of extra mileage / SC bonus.

In regards to an Australian stopover, BNE was the only one, SYD was just transfer.
Having flown QF107 before I am aware that it counts as one leg and doesn't cost you your single transcontinental.
Good thought about swapping LAX and LAS and it should work for my timing.
I was considering going to Belize, but as it will be Hurricane season decided to leave it for another time. Also have always wanted to go to Alaska.
It seems the only direct flight from the "lower states" is Chicago. That seems to work further by allowing me to avoid LHR, saving money and rules re one middle east flight, by flying direct to Amman.
This year I was able to "do" the Nurburgring and Stuttgart Porsche and Merc Museums, so Milan is on the list for this trip to visit Ferrari, Lamborghini etc.
SVX is for my Russian family and so far, the AY flights are best for this.
Picked BKK to visit a mate, and HKG to avoid the NRT QF 767.

Hopefully someone who has visited Petra might join the chat and pass on their experiences in Jordan. Obviously summer is not the best time to be visiting, but the opportunity is too good to pass up.

If you're not fussed about making QF WP and enjoying the associated benefits on QF then by all means credit to AA for the superior earn/burn. The AA Platinum challenge can only be achieved on flights marketed by AA. You need to earn 10k elite qualifying points in 90 days to achieve AA Platinum, and I think under the new rules you need to pay some sort of rego fee. To make the Plat challenge faster - simply change QF107 to AA7365 which gets you over the line instantly with [9956 x 1.5] EQPs.

Also consider ticketing this with AA in order to bring down the YQ. Book with the AA ATW desk in Dallas (number on AA.com) and pay through AA BNE.

It's about a 3 hour drive down the freeway, and an all-day drive along the scenic route.

We drove down the scenic route, left about 10am got to the hotel about 6ish, then went to Petra the next day, left about 6ish, got back to the AMM hotel about 10ish. Just be aware that some drivers don't believe in using lights at dark, I almost ran into someone going about 120KM who was chortlening along at 60KM with no lights on...

Also, consider going to the roman ruins to the north of AMM, Jerash, it's about a 2 hour drive. And go to the dead sea for a float, we were able to go to Jerash in the morning, and late afternoon went to the dead sea for a float. Suggest you hire a car, there were no GP buses to Petra from Amman.

I went in winter, which was pleasant. Summer may be a bit hot.

Only advice would be get those ANC flights booked in early! I booked a DONE4 months out and all A/F/P seats were gone (DFW-ANC, but I imagine the same applies to ex-ORD flights). I was waitlisted, and luckily it came through at the last minute (literally 5 minutes before I borded). It's a long flight to have to sit in Y, and the F status credits are huge, so you want F on those flights!

Yes, booked and "ticketed" as I saw that Alaska seats disappear fast.
And thanks for the advice re Jordan, and I know what you mean about night drivers without lights. Worst experiences have been while working in Shanghai and tons of people run their electric scooters at night without lights to save power........and of course you can't hear them coming! :shock:
