Please see the comments which I have just posted in the Qantas thread. I would appreciate advice from SQ experts, especially if they have also flown QF.
I do not wish to post this in two locations, hence perhaps do not respond here as well - just use the Qantas thread if possible ( or tell me if I should do something differently).
Many thanks

I will choose SIA over Qantas... Have flown both and SIA is a lot better.

Abandoned QF for SQ half a dozen years ago. One of my best decisions ever.

FF program is way better for my circumstances, including ease of availability to J/F redemptions..and for a family of 5 at that.

This is a no-brainer to me, if SQ is a serious option for where you need to go then SQ is a fairly easy choice. Most who stay with QF do so because they fly routes they dont really get much of a choice on.

No brainer IMO. I'd go SQ in a heartbeat if I was flying primarily to Asia or Europe. That or CX.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

That was just to get opinions from both QF and SQ fans - I was not sure if SQ pax even look at the QF site - I intended responses to only go on one thread...
Thanks Cruiser Elite for your detailed comments on the Qantas thread - much appreciate it.
And thanks to all the SQ fans for their input.

I note that saver suites for 2 pax can be difficult to find, but when I tested this on SQ web, there seem to be plenty available as long as it is with plenty of lead time.
Seems to be more availability than QF.
I also looked at the non suite New First class which will fly from Mel to Singapore - looks like a nice product, similar to QF A380 1st class.

I recently switched my credit card from accumulating QF points to allowing access to SQ instead....that tells you the way that I am now thinking.

Thats a classic understatement! Ever looked for flights in school holidays 3-6 months out on Qantas and had any success, zilch for me. But have had plenty of success on SQ.

Wow, that's great to hear. I've seen 4 J flights BNE-SIN but I gather that is very rare on other routes. Do you mind if I ask how easy you have found it to find 4 or 5 J rewards from Australia to Singapore and Singapore to Europe?
Are you able to book them 12 months in advance or do you have to wait until T-14?

Thanks so much,
Mark

Only problem I have with SQ is the lack of forward J availability from Australia. At least with QF when I'm planning well in advance I can lock in a J fare to Asia relatively easy.

That said I've recently moved over to the fee free for life signature card and took up the NAB Virgin platinum card for the 40K points bonus, so I'll likely be blowing my remaining points with QFF on hopefully an F trip to LAX or NYC if I can push that far.

VA certainly have much easier J reward bookings to LAX than QFF.

Unless you want a direct earn card with SQ, maybe look at a card that lets you warehouse the points till you decide what you want to do with them.

It sounds as though many pax on this forum earn their SQ points via Westpac Altitude Black. I currently earn most of my QF points via ATO (ANZ Amex) . The Altitude card appears to have no point limit per month and no ATO restrictions (and currently a double points offer) - is this currently the ideal card for SQ points ?

It has varied.

When I first started redeeming with SQ, one could easily gain 4 J to Asian destinations like Vietnam and Thailand. Sometimes 5. But to Europe it was a cap of 2 J for SIN onwards legs. So I would book flights on consecutive days....or book a *A through SQ on Thai where greater seat numbers were normally found.

When they tweaked the redemption rates availability opened up and one could book 3 or 4 to Europe in J (or at least when I wanted to I could).

My European trips have normally been booked almost a year out. Asian trips sometimes only a few months out.

I do not book T-14 out as my leave taking is not that flexible. But yes I have seen availability.

My last trip to Europe was only for 2 as my daughters did not come with us.

Well in advance, you mean like 330 days on the dot, totally not my experience as regards relative availability!

For SQ the best deals are the Westpac Altitude black, the Westpac SQ Amex, Citibank cards or an Amex direct card.

I think Qantas economy is superior to SQ economy but that decision would be biased on having status with Qantas and pre-allocating bulkhead.

Business class I am not so sure SQ is that much better than Qantas.

I just did BKK-SIN-SYD on an SQ A330 and 777. The service was quite OK but I have had OK service on Qantas as well.

The SQ A330 short haul business class product is similar to Qantas and other airlines. Short flight and not a lot to worry about.

The SQ 777 business class product did not impress me that much. It appears to require effort to turn into a "bed" but I want to sit up as well. So I took it as far as the controls would allow manually and slept for a couple of hours. I would much rather the Qantas Skybed.

I am not sure where you are located, but if you are flying from Australia to Asia or Europe- no doubt SQ is superior. However I got a freind that keeping QFF because he fly to South America often and Qantas/LAN has direct flight.
However for SQ, I also found that to find availbility from sydney to usa could be abit challanging as many of redemption seats from sydney to usa gone as soon as they are released.
btw, i am comparing the business and first class above... hardly wasting my miles for eco class..:)
