I ordered the American breakfast.

Out came a plate of fruit. Then a tub of yoghurt.

Me "Is this the continental breakfast?"
FA looks at me "Would you like the main now?"

What main? I didn't realise cooked breakfast included fruit and yoghurt. She was a little rude.

Sounds like they serve breakfast in two rounds, entrée and main.
If so, much better then QF breakfast.

That's actually perfectly acceptable in Singapore, but having said that, you don't quite look like a Singaporean either. All the new FAs start in Y, and they would be allowed to work in J after I think about a year or so. Obviously, high-level customer services experiences can clearly be lacking sometimes.

If travelling F does status really matter? To me the main advantage of We is that it basically gives you a first class experience OFF the aircraft.
Often its a matter of the status allowing one to travel in F via miles redemption or upgrade. if purchasing an F ticket, then yes the status makes much less difference.

Agreed. Sounds perfectly acceptable to me. I think JohnK was expecting to be served just a "hot cooked main" but instead got a a "starter" to the actual American breakfast.

QF has definitely lowered the expectations lol.

That's OK but she could have done it without the attitude. All I did was ask a question.

This thread serves as a juxtaposition for me, as I did the opposite, moving from SQ to QF because the service as an elite on QF is way better than non-PPS elites on SQ. And SQ is just too robotic for me tbh.

Although if you, the OP, do believe SQ is the right choice, then go with it. Personally I think status isn't worth chasing on SQ unless you can get to QPP or TPP.

I have 2 airlines in my list of 'aims' to get top tier status with. Firstly SQ TPP and secondly LH HON. Personally right now I know it's impossible for me to get either, so the logical choice was to abandon SQ for QF. Right now it seems that service on QF is way better than what SQ delivers which sways me more to remain loyal to QF and OW.

After many years of loyalty to Qantas, I am seriously thinking about changing over to Singapore Airlines.
We (myself, wife +- youngest child) fly overseas, largely to Europe in A380 in F, three times a year or so. Flights were mostly classic awards in the past, but more recently FASA (thanks AFF) hence we will be platinum next month.

I always thought the above arrangement was good value at about 380,000 points per return flight from Mel to LHR in F.
However, I recently noticed that Singapore Airlines First Suites to Europe are only 240,000 points - a very significant difference.
Earning rates for both airlines is identical i.e. 1.5 point / $ spent using Amex.
Singapore also seems to have an advantage that their taxes and fees are $200 cheaper than Qantas.
I have never been in an SQ Suite, but I understand that it is at least as nice as F in A380 QF (can anyone confirm or otherwise please?)

OT, but 3 pax * 3 times a year * 380k = 3.4 million points a year to burn!

You're also assuming the award availability on SQ ...

I had SQ Krisflyer Gold for a year and then PPS for another year before giving up the program altogether. I agree with earlier posts that status with SQ is only great at the PPS level. The service and recognition was great when flying with them, both air and ground service. I found the redemption availability reasonably good too for SQ elites.

However, I fly domestically often as well, so QF prevailed. Being an SQ elite of VA wasn't really as great as QF elite on QF, for obvious reasons haha (unless you are a VA elite as well). But in terms of international travel, both are pretty equal. So, if you're mainly flying internationally on routes serviced by SQ, then try considering the change.

Award availability on SQ is much better IME than QF, especially in premium cabins. Also they are *A so there is some choice there to EU

You should jump ship ukh. That's what QF want you to do. Flyers at the pointy end getting "cheap status" on the back of a zillion FF points were a significant contributor to the recent "enhancements". I don't know why you'd feel any inkling to remain loyal.

Cruiser Elite and Cove probably won't appreciate another piranha in the SQ tank though :D - especially one with your points balance.

Last year I burnt 3,000,000 points on QF.
I just checked F availability for May 2015 for Mel - Europe. SQ seems to have a lot more availability than QF for 2 pax, and require less points and less fees/taxes.

The new Westpac Black Altitude has just arrived..... I am on my way !
I am sure QF will not miss me.
