Confused - don't know if my AA flights have been ticketed or not

As an aside, no drama booking AS flights. I was comparing options between AS and AA and Alaskan was just coming out cheaper by far for “First”. Really nothing particularly great value on AA domestic at the moment 😔.

The issues started when AA started flying to Australia. They didn't have an AU site before that.

Although it was funny, back in the day you could book solely QF domestic flights on aa.com, and sometimes they were cheaper than QF. You had to put the UK as your billing country though, but it always worked.

AA.com.au has been around for a very long time (pre dates the recent AA metal here and QF partnership) but those in the know would just force it to .com and do whatever workaround to get the payment through. Many threads on the fun and joys, especially the heady days of YUPPs.

Unless I'm mistaken, or I'm very old, I do remember a time where there was no Australian site, and you had to use the hack to get your credit card through. Otherwise you had to do it over the phone or a TA.

Edit - looks like there's a very old thread about it

Update: After three days, payment for the booking finally appeared on my Amex card, and not just as "pending", but as a cleared transaction. Although the status of the trip on AA.com did show as "ticketed" I was still worried that there'd been a problem with my payment, and that the booking would be cancelled at some point down the line. That worry has now gone away.

I don't think I've ever been this relieved to have someone take my money before...

Made a booking on AA website for the first time in ages yesterday. Hit the speed bump at the CC payment section but after being tossed over to the AU website and was presented with literally twice the price for the same flights. Went back to the US site and entered a friends US address and Oz CC details (28° MC). Payment processed and ticketed immediately.

The funny thing is, our friend lives in Chicago and the flight was ORD-BOS to attend their wedding in Maine!

Next time I’ll just revert to the “El Segundo” method or as suggested earlier, use a Hotel address (I may have done that before also….).

Actually, SYD+1 went back and rechecked the pricing in the US and Oz websites and the reason it appeared double on the Oz one was because it was quoting total price (for 2x PAX) not the per person fare 🤦‍♂️….

So maybe the AU site has improved after all?

Would seem crazy to charge an "Australia Tax" because it would see more people book through TAs to get the cheaper US pricing and reducing their commission.

It definitely was the case well before Covid. It was impossible to book those YUPP fares on the AU website back in the day.

Hi There,

Just tried to book internal AA flights via AA.com.
I did not think it was so difficult last time I did it. 😒

So after checking info above, I put the flights on hold and then called the Sydney number to pay.
The agent did not seem sure about me paying with an Australian credit card and my Australian address.
Of course the "ZIP" code did not work with 4 digits so I put an 0 at the end.

Can someone confirm if I have done this correctly ?

I have other internal flights to book so wondering if I put a USA address in ( my sisters) and pay with Australian CC? ( even though this is obviously not the billing address )

Thanks and apologies if this post is confusing.....Im confused 😂

TQ

I always put a "leading" zero on my postcode, making it 04xx_ and my Australian address (putting my suburb into the "City" field. It has always worked for me for both on-line award flight bookings and over the phone payments. But it has been a few years since I have purchased AA flights/redemptions.

No issues when I did this a couple of months ago. Just told agent I want to pay in USD using my Aussie CC. Gave my Aussie PO Box as the address and normal 4 digital post code over the phone no problem, tickets issued before the call ended.

The only issue is if you go into the equivalent of MMB you can only use an email for contact details as they only accept US or UK phone numbers.

Why are you entering an address? You don't have to enter a mailing/billing address to put on hold.

When you call up give your Australian address, there's no requirement to fudge it.

The SYD office can definitely process the payment. If they question you ask to speak to someone else.

I don't recall having problems paying for US carrier flights with an AUS CC in USD. Never had to call up to pay either.
But this was back maybe 7 years.
I don't remember what billing address i used....I think the Australian one.

This one from 2017 and booked on AA.com

Hi justinbrett:

I did not need an address to put it on hold, but when I called to pay, the agent wanted the billing address. I assumed that was the billing address for the CC I was using so gave my Aust address but of course the postcode wouldn't work for her so I added a 0 to the end.

Now Im concerned either I, or the agent have not done it correctly

TQ

The agent is at fault. They can absolutely enter Australian addresses without issue.

Did you receive the e-ticket immediately?
