Complimentary CommBank Credit Card Travel Insurance

As I already have a CommBank Master Card, is there anything wrong with using the complimentary Travel Insurance? I know it needs to be activated by a $500 charge on a booking related to the trip. Any other hiccups to be expected?

Essentially, no.

CC insurances cover the same, or exceed, paid policies in terms of cover.

Like paid policies, they don’t cover many pre-existing conditions. Some CC insurances allow you to apply for pre-existing cover, some don’t.

Always a good idea to compare your CC cover against a paid policy you might otherwise take out, And see if there are any gaps.

Will they cover pre-existing medical conditions?

They have a list of pre existing conditions that they cover. Things like hypertension, asthma etc.
Anything that is not listed is either excluded if you claim or needs to be declared and coverage applied for.
For example I declare my Atrial Fib as not declaring would likely eliminate heart/stroke type issues from coverage if they occur.
It brings up a checklist of simple questions and then offers me an extra fee coverage to include my declared pre existing. The fee is quite reasonable IMO and I have used this coverage for all our travel for many years. Even if using a paid commercial policy as far as I know I would still need to decare my pre existing and pay an extra charge.

We have only had two reasonably small claims and both were paid out.
