i already get a free amex earning 1.5 QF points per dollar and have a separate MC and Visa each earning 1 QF point per dollar (both free as well), so no interest. Add to the fact that CBA is the worst customer service out of any bank in Aus, a really low bar, and it's a no brainer.

The worst customer service? Never had a problem and have been banking with them for the last 18 years.

Rang up Commbank card services this week to cancel my plat cards - which have hardly been used since I switched to the Citi Select.

Explained that the plat cards weren't as good value points earning wise as the Citi Select, when asked why I wanted to cancel, and was immediately offered an upgrade to the diamond cards, with annual fee waived for the first year. Told them I'd think about it - but I don't think I'll take it up.

Wealth Package people called yesterday to say that "NO" can't upgrade to Diamond for free. Told them that I don't use my free Platinum because reach Cap early and lady stated that they are looking at offering Diamond as part of Wealth package in the future but not now.

Still not a great card but better

I got a similar response for my request for gold in wealth package to be put up to platinum. Surely now that Diamond is the top level they could go for plat in the package. I asked the customer service specialist at my local branch and was told no.

Do you think I should call the credit card line itself? Would I get a better response?

Unlike you, I have been able to exceed my cap on the gold and keep earning points. So far I've racked up 40000 qantas points, so 80000 award points, and no caps have been applied ie still 2 points for $1 on amex and 1 point $1 on MC. It makes me wonder whether I should keep quiet lest they rein in my earning. If they did apply the caps as intended it would certainly be a pretty useless card.

is it just me, or does it say 3 points for every AMEX spend and 2 points for every MC Spend?

In this document -> ww w.commbank.co m.au/personal/apply-online/download-printed-forms/Commonwealt hAwards.pdf

That's 3/2 cba points which convert to qff at 2:1, so $1 spent would earn 1.5 qff points with the Amex, 1pt/$ with the m/card.

I was also told this week that Wealth Package did not qualify me for Diamond

Hi

Im new to the forum and wanted to share my findings....

I am on the wealth package. Got a phone call this week from my relationship manager saying that I had been selected to upgrade my MCard Gold to MCard Diamond, continuing with my current no annual fee.

I also have a Visa Platinum with no annual fee through the wealth package.

So it was an easy choice for me to accept.

My MCard Gold had always been my back up card with Visa Platinum as my primary use card. Now Im going to swap and use MCard Diamond as primary and receive the couple of extra points under diamond. Although Amex points remain the same.

I assume the international transaction fee for both Mastercard and Visa are the same, based on the CBA website FAQs below:

How much are international transaction fees?
A. International transaction fees are determined by the card scheme, either MasterCard or Visa. These are:
  • Transactions converted by MasterCard® or Visa - 2.95% of the total transaction
  • Transactions converted by American Express® - 1.95% of the total transaction
  • Transactions overseas but in Australian dollars - 2.00% of the total transaction
In addition, American Express transactions are also subject to a 1.50% American Express currency conversion factor which is included in the converted transaction amount.

Today I received in the mail an offer to upgrade to Diamond "at no extra cost". I was very surprised at this. I must admit I have been rejecting the silly increases in credit limit that CBA have been offering me over the last3 years.
It's the standard 0.625 QF mile per $ on MC and 1.5 per $ on Amex.

I think it's gonna be World Mastercard rather than a VISA Signature as CBA does not issue VISA anymore.

afaik cba diamond is still a mastercard platinum and the only mc world is hsbc premier

yes free upgrades are now being offered to plat holders

I also got the letter today offering me an upgrade. But I'm only Visa Gold at the moment. Could never justify paying the extra for Platinum, but they're now giving me Diamond for no additional cost.

What's odd, is like many others I tried getting them to upgrade me to Platinum only about three weeks ago (I'm on the wealth package), but they refused.

I was emailed with the offer including the fee. It turned me off. After a one minute chat with my bank liaison guy he waived the fees and will add it as part of my wealthpackage.

Got the offer in the mail today to upgrade from Plat to Diamond.

I don't even use the Plat cards, but as it's free with the wealth package (from some time ago) and it specifically says upgrade at "no extra cost" then I'll take it. It does say additional cardholders are $15, but as I'm not paying for that currently I assume that will also be free (seeing we're both part of the wealth package).

I wonder if the upgrades for those on the Gold card are also wealth package customers, or if this offer is going out to everyone?

Got my offer in the post just now: Platinum to Diamond. Just in the nick of time (well, not quite) -- I was going to cancel the Platinum card package before the 1st anniversary because the points offering was so derisory.

Received my upgrade from Plat to Diamond today - as per others it's a free upgrade with the cost of the Diamond card capped the same as the Plat card for as long as I keep the card.

This is my only account with CBA so the offer doesn't seem limited to Wealth Package customers.

I'm a Wealth Package customer from way back with a Gold Mastercard that only sees the light of day when I do ATM withdrawals from my linked accounts. Ever since they wound back the earning rate I switched all my spend to the "fee-free" Plat Citi Visa.

I received the offer to go Diamond yesterday for no additional cost (beyond the $350 per annum fee for the package). I assume there is no down-side to doing this, and I get to earn 1.5 points per $ from anyone stupid enough to accept Amex. I still won't be using the Mastercard unless the Amex and Visa fail me.

My only concern is that next year they will put the fee up on the Diamond Wealth Package, and if they are that sneaky I will feel obliged to take my business elsewhere. That would be a pain.

Same here - never use the Plat Mastercard as I use the Woolworths EDR card with a better earn rate (even paying the annual fee, I get more points value after about 2 months of the year).

Got my invite by mail as well (Plat Visa, no wealth package).

Going to sign up, but had been resisting giving away my Visa from CBA. Don't have another visa in the wallet (but do have another MC), and have always had the belief you should have one card from each issuer to cover all bases.

You never know when Japan might host the winter olympics again and only accept Visa to buy tickets! ;)
