For the Amex:

You earn 4 points per $1 for the promo period, capped at 5000 bonus points
Then back to 3 points per $1 thereafter and ongoing
Until the 1st Feb the transfer rate to QFF is still 1:1
After the 1st of Feb the transfer rate is $1500 for 1000 points

This is confusing!
So it's just the bonus (sign-up points) that are capped at 5000, otherwise capped at 150,000 each year, from anniversary of card, excluding "bonus points"?

To clarify everything, i'm going to list a summary for platinum.

Post Feb 2010 (Platinum Only):

Amex Earning: 3 points per dollar
MC Earning: 1 point per dollar

Burning rate: 2 points per QFF

Cap: Above earning are for First 120000 (60000 QFF points)

After the first 120000 points or 60000 QFF:

Amex earning: 1 point per dollar
MC earning: No Point

Burning rate: Same, 2 points per QFF

Cap: Up to another 80000 points or 40000 QFF....

Therefore, this card is a total rubbish when it reaches the first 60000 QFF points.

Yep that is correct! You must have received the little black brochure..

The only good part about this is from when you receive the card (23rd October I read) is that you get 3 QFF per $1 until 1st Feb on the Amex.

With 5000 bonus points when you spend $5000.

Looks like I have to update all my direct debit agreements again from the Amex SQ card to the Amex CBA card until Feb!

At least we have a promo until Feb and then the search for a new promo can begin again. :D

so sick of cards hopping... everytime you think you found something nice and applied for it... they change it to rubbish in 6months - 1 yr time...

its just not enough decent competition in AUS....and customer always lose out :(

Anyone with existing AMEX card also went for the CBA one?

I already have an AMEX card from my professional body which is free, so there's no real need to get another AMEX card. But I thought it's nice to have a combined AMEX/VISA account to consolidate reward points.

Thoughts?

Cheers!

Yes it is!

But the Westpac Krisflyer may be your better option, with the Visa ar 1:1 and the Amex at 1.5:1 uncapped.

But if you don't use your point frequently, you points get expired! I think Kris has a 3 year expiry date. So for lower usage people, you may never get the reward you wanted.

That's true, but if that's the case you may be better off with a cheaper card.

My CBA Plat is due for renewal in March, I got as a back-up for my two Citibank cards which were about to be capped.

With a 20k point sign-up and this new Amex card it's been worthwhile, but I'll kick it into touch as soon as I extract the points from this promotion!

havent got my card yet,

must admit, all of these ratios and bonus promos are so confusing, ive got no idea, even reading them is confusing

when I get my card, I am going to change all of my direct debit and ALL purchases to use the amex card that won't charge a surcharge for it....

Haven't received my card yet, but my Amex card number has shown up in Netbank under my Visa card's Account Information screen.

Basically
Amex
3 Qantas points per $1 until 1st Feb
Bonus 1 point per $1 for the first 5000 points

Then after 1st Feb
1.5 Qantas points per $1

But there are caps which are pretty poor!

Just called CBA and they pissed me off...They will not reduce my annual fee but to offer me 10000 points only... rubbish!

I'm going to close it in Feb....

Not sure why you expected differently, very little success of having annual fees waived by CBA

10,000 points is very nice and worth about $800 to me so I would much rather points.

I'll give them a call when I get the new cards as I am not that happy about the Visa offering..
