I tried to book via the call centre a combined FASA MEL-LAX and JASA LAX-JFK but was told the fare basis of the cash fare made this not possible and I'd have to book the second part as a classic award.

Has anyone been able to do this? perhaps I just got an agent who wasn't sure how it's done. On a positive note the MEL-LAX FASA was quoted as 144k points plus $664 which I was happy with.

1. It would be more points required to book.
2. I don't believe it's possible to book LAX-JFK on QF107/108 unless it's part of an itinery exiting the country.

Correct. I'd done ASA in "U" class, then upgraded to "P" on the MEL-LAX sector.
