I'm wondering if CX and/ or SQ miles maybe used for an itinerary covering CMB, Laos and Cambodia. In J from SYD or SIN or HKG.

Advice on routing, miles appreciated.

I'd be surprised if you were able to get to all of those destinations on one ticket. SQ round-trip awards do allow for one stopover and one open-jaw, so there is some flexibility there. But you need to take a direct routing (i.e. backtracking isn't allowed).

In terms of mileage, SQ uses zones while CX is distance-based. I notice that CMB is in "South Asia" with SQ, meaning it costs more miles to get to. I also notice that HKG-CMB is a sweet spot with CX, just fitting into award zone B (by 6 miles).

Perhaps route something like SYD-xSIN-PNH (stopover & open jaw), then HKG-xSIN-SYD, on an SQ round-trip booking. Then book HKG-CMB-HKG using CX miles. You'll then just need to get from PNH (or wherever you are) to HKG at your own expense.

On checking flights on Kayak it looks like BKK would be best port for our itinerary, with Bangkok Airways having direct flights to both Phnom Pehn and Vientiane. Looks like CX is partner for award flight redemptions.

We were able to Get SQ awards to Yangon through lifemiles 12 months ago. That was with no availability with SQ itself. And didn't even have to use a screen shot!

I believe that (for example) REP-xSIN-HKG is an allowable SQ award routing as this can be booked as an SQ revenue fare.
I am not sure that is entirely true.

I can book revenue fares for BKK-SIN-HKG and BKK-SIN-MNL. Only BKK-SIN-MNL is available as an award booking.

I just tried plugging that routing into the SQ website and you're right - it wasn't allowed as it would be considered backtracking.

Well there you go, I just learned something. Thanks for pointing that out. :)
