Collecting Things as an AFFer

Just curious to see what is collected/gathered/kept together as Frequent Flyers in "the know" of how the FF system works, or just have to fly alot due to work/family/because they can... And just ensure I'm not the only crazy one

Used to collect the Baggage tags from every flight I took when I was younger (>18), but no point in that when the BPs are so much cooler to keep anyway. I've also got a half-decent collection of In-flght magazines, though I wish I had the .pdf versions of them; Heck, sometimes I question why I have them in the first place :|

Anyone else want to throw what's worth keeping to remember from our travels? INT flights I can see Passport Stamps and Foreign Currency a common one... of sorts.... Yet when your only doing Oz<->NZ using Smartgate, well...

From the flights themselves I keep inflight menus and wine lists, have a mountain of J and F PJ's and a gazillion amenity kits (must actually stop doing this as I never use them).
From the trips I collect fridge magnets, bookmarks and coins.

I keep my BP's and buy little things I see and like off eBay. Occasionally I send myself postcards and race them home. I tried to collect fridge magnets like PF but it's very hard to find them at some QLD mine site airport shacks

Boarding passes, amenity kits and occasionally the blankets that I've purchased when on LCC's

When abroad a set of currency from every country, a postcard for everyday we are traveling with our little one and more recently immigration cards!

Another fridge magnet person here. My fridge/freezer & two other freezers are covered in magnets.


When I was in America in 2009, a shop in Boise (or close by) was selling magnets of the various states. I was able to get all but 2 of the states. Luckily I was able to pick up the other 2 states somewhere else (at Hoover Dam, from memory). Unfortunately they aren't to the correct scale so I can't put them together like a jigsaw puzzle.

I would imagine amenity kits are always very welcome at homeless shelters, women's refuges etc.

I get a bank note from each country, a fridge magnet from each city or place of interest and then a general souvenir from each city or place... So becoming a bit of a challenge to think of new different ones as already have plenty of snow domes, plates, spoons, mugs, fluffy toys with "I love ..." etc... Also have to consider what will fit in the luggage and not get smashed to pieces during weeks of travel or won't get confiscated by customs when returning to Australia (ie wooden products)... I have also missed quite a number of city's fridge magnets before i started collecting them, but am thinking of trying to order some over the internet...

As i have started flying J i have started keeping some of the menus (not sure how long it will continue) and often collect my amenity kit but yes they are starting to accumulate as well...

I collect Postcards, not ones ive received but new unused ones, have a decent collection and do so with the intention of one day (when Im old and decrepit) being able to look back and relive my travels.

I also collect milestone boarding passes, recently had my first F A380 flight BP framed with a pic of me in the seat to celebrate.

Collected lots of things over the years but am getting more discerning.

Small/light is good ... large/dense is bad ...

I can assure you the after the first 1000 or so collecting BP's tends to wear off - especially as they generally don't have the year on them ... (was that PPP BNE BP from 1996 or 1998?).

Of course, these days you can burn your library of OLCI BP's onto a CD/DVD

Sometimes buy fridge magnets - typically ones from art galleries etc. Often keep overseas BP, more as a memory aid of when I went somewhere.

Also keep lots of extra kgs collected from various airport lounges!

My sister-in-law works in a public hospital - I give mine to her, which she puts in the ward cupboard for people who come in with nothing and don't have family to bring them a toothbrush etc - public hospitals don't provide amenities! I also have started collecting the little shampoos etc from hotels.

I used to collect BPs too but as serfty said after a while the novelty wears off, especially when all the BPs start to look much the same. I only tend to keep the ones of better trips or flights now, e.g. First and some Business Class BPs.

I collect amenity kits. Got quite a collection at home. I tend to try and keep only one of each kind (unless it's a really good kit) so any repeats get used by me or passed on as gifts.

I also collect PJs and again usually keep it to only one of each. Thankfully that's a smaller collection.

Finally, I try to collect playing cards, mainly of only airlines and novelty designs, but sometimes of places I've been to.

For international destination souvenirs: a shot glass and a set of drink coasters preferably with reminders of places I've visited. I figure these are somewhat practical and usable. Also, sometimes a set of postcards in lieu of my poor photography skills.

I tend to throw away boarding passes once points have posted, although have kept a few milestone ones.

I've kept my amenity kits and PJs from my recent inaugural First experience on QF, and tend to keep hotel toiletries, more for the containers than the contents.

Like most here fridge magnets but also collect shooter glasses and hotel room keys (not basic ones).

In the past BP and menus which I tossed out years ago.

Don't like the current ladies QF F amenities red bag it feels cheap (have two) so at the moment am collecting the male kits for family members until they change the ladies (much preferred the 2009 blue and white satin with Australian motif, 2010 black quilted satin and then the Payot bags).

Sofitel premium rooms have Hermes soap in a green plastic container which are placed in my draws and wardrobes; and bath crystals/salts/bombs you can never have too many. Hotel toiletries but gave most of it to the flood appeal.

PJ's go to male family, friends and next door neighbour. Have a nephew who is a tradie and he take all the flight socks.

I collect Starbucks mugs.... too many in fact. And everytime they refresh the mugs with a new range, I'm convinced I need to buy the new ones. Need to get a custom cabinet made up to house them all.

I also put baggage tags on the outside of my mid sized Samsonite suitcase, and am attempting to cover the entire outside with them. I call it my other passport!
