Collecting QFF points in NZ

Bit by bit, they (airlines) are cutting ways of earning, from the non profitable to the very profitable.
Not only QF, but VAd.
QF used to operate under is own brand in NZ, then it made sense to earn and burn points there. They are simply retreating from a market they are no longer targeting. Trying to live in a QF world in NZ is really just on a hiding to nothing.

Not really Airpoints is hopeless unless you only travel in NZ

How hard is it for a Kiwi citizen (NZ based) to get an Australian credit card?

Need 100 points ID to set up a bank account. Then prove to bank/Amex you are credit worthy for a credit card.
Not a particularly good reference - 100 point check - Wikipedia
Typical AU bank-- ID check documents - Commbank and Moving to Australia - CommBank

If visiting AU nothing to lose by setting up a bank account. 1000's of back packers in AU do every year when here temporarily.
If your NZ bank is owned by an AU bank (as most are) may be easiest to use that

It's worth noting you don't need proof of address - you do need to provide an Australian address but they don't check, you can use a mate's address or your employer's office address etc.

However banks are strict on the income checks and I'm not sure if they will accept non-Australian income. I suspect this will be the biggest hurdle. Without an income or significant assets in Oz you'd be a risk as they would have a lot more trouble collecting from you in case of default.

And as others have said, even if approved, the problem is you will pay exchange fees / float twice - once on the card while spending in NZ, and a second time when moving your NZD to AUD to pay off the card. Not sure the QFF point earn will be worth it - maybe for certain initial bonuses but not ongoing.

All the more reasons that NZ should have joined the federation when they had the chance 🤣

Re: NZ resident living in NZ, getting an Aust (true) credit card, near Impossible in the first instance, unless you have a life in Aust, so to speak.
Credit checks, Aust employment history, etc.
Come to Aust to work, if you know someone who can offer you a good job, live here maybe a year, get an Aust bill (electricity) under your name, etc, and start like that, then its possible to get an Aust credit card.
NZ citizens have work rights in Aust without a visa, and are able to enter and live on an SCV, so its not hard to move here, but as straight out getting an Aust credit card without Aust work history, or Aust credit history, near or an impossible feat.
Edit:
Also the earning of Airpoint $ on QF flights is skewed towards a $ gain between the 2.
If you live in a city or town where AirNZ does not fly to, you have to fly there to a capital city or some cities in Qld that AirNZ flies to, and if the fares are all linked on an AirNZ PNR (all alphabetic), its a very very expensive preposition, and once you get into the grips of it, you do not any QFF points or SC in this equation, you will only earn Airpoints and AirNZ status points, no QFF points or QF SC on the AirNZ flights.
ADL - MEL - AKL, some days where there is no (Air)NZ direct flight, the ADL - MEL flight on QF is with an AirNZ flight number, no reciprocal once you get to NZ, if you want to fly AKL - ZQN, you have to fly JQ(NZ)d to earn QF points and QF SC, the linkage of QF and AirNZ stops at AKL.
And you can't earn QF points and QF SC on Air NZ flights either.
This is what I mean by no reciprocity in the agreement.

The tie in between QF and AirNZ shouldn't have been allowed, as its not an even playing field.
If you want to earn QFF points and QF SC, only way is to fly JQ(NZ)d.

Sorry, your post is so inaccurate, rather than refuting it line by line, just read then NZ page on the QF website https://www.qantas.com/au/en/qantas-experience/network-and-partner-airlines/air-new-zealand.html

As far as it “shouldn’t have been allowed”, there’s no overlap as it doesn’t include international (including TT).

QFF can earn points and SC on NZ if it’s booked as a QF codeshare.
