Apologies if it seems a beginner question, but I was wondering if you are booked on one of the cheap tickets (Say red-e-deal) and miss the flight, are you still awarded the points and SC?

TheStudent, sorry but no. Unless you actually fly there are no points and no status credits.

In General, actually flying is needed to earn points/miles/status.
