Coffee vs Tea on Qantas

Agreed, I've never had an issue with anything that I've drunk onboard, or eaten for that matter.

For the Black Tea drinkers out there, If you ask the FA nicely, a slice of lemon can usually be arranged to enhance* your drinking experience. ;)

* enhance -referring a literal sense and trusting that lemon slices are still offered onboard.

That's my go to drink on domestic.

I'm sure I've been sick quite a few times after a flight but I'm certain it wasn't caused by bugs in the water served for tea/coffee. I've even drunk water from the jugs they bring around, not sure if this is bottked water or filtered water.

I don't drink coffee but may have a tea occasionally. Since my daughter was born she has been travelling with me quite a lot and on the longer sectors I ask the crew to clean out her milk/water bottle with boiling water and a few times have used that boiling water for her formula milk too.

No issues so far. And this is on a number of airlines not just Qantas.

They didn’t serve it on the afternoon flight last Sunday. Just a soft drink and biscuit. So much for full service airline. I asked for one and was told the computer says no.

Was it a morning or afternoon refreshment? Soft drink and a muffin or cookie is par for the course for MEL-ADL vv, although I skip 'food' on those legs.
Afternoon tea. But with meal service I’ve been told no as well as they are busy serving the ‘meal’. I never eat the food even for meal times.

I've seen only a handful of studies related to water quality on planes, and most of them have been related to domestic flights. Reportedly the tanks get cleaned only once a year. That sounds icky, but with the movement of water through it, it is probably going to be less stagnant than the water you get in the bottles of water.
If there's a real risk to the public I feel it would be dependent on where that airline sourced its water on the flight. Different countries have different water quality levels and issues. But if you can stomach the water in the country you are coming from, you can probably do it no problems on the plane.

On BNE-SYD flights I don't see the whole cabin but they occassionally get requests for tea/coffee and the answer most times is if we have time. On full flights they generally have 2 carts out serving and that doesn't leave much time for tea/coffee.

It’s random though. Sometimes they have it and sometimes they don’t. 1.30pm flight over and they had it.

How busy are the crew? Is that flight their allocated meal flight? Have the crew had a bad day?

Well I don’t eat the meals so I don’t take notice. I do like a cup of tea though and I don’t drink soft drink.

Don't the tea and coffe jugs have different coloured lids, orange and black at least on QF.

Maybe that's been done away with and I haven't noticed.

I agree. I don't understand why they don't bring a jug on the drinks cart when they are serving meals. They may get more people choosing tea/coffee and save on other drinks.

Are you saying that, on QF dom, tea/coffee is often not served and when you ask, you are often refused? That's astonishing.
Not uncommon on short (approx 1 hour) flights after mid-morning in my experience.
