Hi there,

looking to book a 10 day trip to Cocos and Christmas Islands.

Given the flight schedules, its a 4:7 night split for either destination. What would you recommend? Looking for quiet and relaxing time, with a little swimming and snorkeling.

Thanks! :)

When we went a few years back, we planned for 4 nights on Cocos and 3 nights on Xmas island but our flights were delayed by a day from Cocos so we ended up only having 2 nights on Xmas Island and 5 nights on Cocos... we felt we had done everythng possible on Cocos in 5 nights so i guess if you want to relax and swim a bit more and do nothing, I would be tempted to spend longer on Cocos. 2 nights on Xmas island wasn't enough and we rushed a bit so I think 4 nights on Xmas Is fine (go in ~Nov at the start of the rainy season for the red crab migration - it is amazing!). If possible, I would do Cocos first and bring plenty of food (for self catering) as there aren't many restaurants there...think esky with frozen food, snacks, wine etc. There are more restaurants on Xmas Island and I know Virgin Bart in his report was not glowing about the pub, but we ate at 2 different Chinese restaurants (I think they only had 3!) and they both were very good and not too pricey. Also allow some wriggle room with your flights ex Perth as there can be weather delays leaving (and getting to) the islands, and have travel insurance to cover out of pocket weather delays. You will need a 4WD on Xmas (many gravel roads) and bicylce on Coccos to get around ;)
