I recently flew Qantas’ milk run service from CNS to ROK on December 28, 2021 and then continued on to BNE shortly after. For only 8,000 points + $39.28 it was plenty of time to experience the Dash 8 Q400 in its natural habitat and look down on some amazing scenery.

A light snack was provided on each service excluding MKY-ROK (only 1 person boarded in MKY)

Flight Details:
QF2391 (CNS-TSV-MKY-ROK)
Depart: 0645
Arrive: 1020
Seat 16D
VH-QOD

QF2373 (ROK-BNE)
Depart: 1150
Arrive: 1310
Seat 6A
VH-QOR

Great pics! I was on QF2373 on the 28th with you and in fact you have a part of my arm and my satchel in one of your pics waiting to board at ROK. I was on my way from ROK to MEL, via BNE. The scenery in and out of ROK was quite spectacular this year with quite a lot of early season rain in November and December - everything was very green. Usually in December the landscape is very brown.

Ahahaha, the chances! Please let me know if you’d like yourself cropped out.

I was quite surprised with the greenery as well, and also impressed with ROK’s new airport upgrade. The only downfall of the trip was the change from QF1797 on the 717.

All good. No need for cropping.

This reminds me that I was originally booked on the 717 out of ROK but it was changed soon after I booked and downgraded to the Dash8.

Was it 8,000 points for the total CNS-BNE or just 8,000 for the CNS-ROK?

The CNS-TSV-MKY-ROK-BNE route is something I've thought of doing before however when I've been travelling between BNE-CNS (or vv) I've been in a hurry. Another one I've thought about is BNE-CNS via the Rex milk run, fares are a shocking $800 for 12 hours of travelling between BNE to CNS via Charleville, Quilpie, Windorah, Birdsville, Bedourie, Bouila and Mt Isa.

I was lucky enough to get it for 8,000 points CNS-BNE, this quickly increased after I purchased the ticket. Highly recommend doing the flight if you want a great view of the reef considering how low the Q400’s fly.

For myself the Rex milk run hasn’t appealed to me only because of the price and duration. However, I am keen to try out SkyTrans’ Q100 service from CNS-PPP-ROK as they’re a rare aircraft to get on these days.

Prices on that look much more reasonable (I can see starting at ~$260?).

Wow that was lucky. If QF does a 30% off promo again perhaps it'll be possible for 8,400 but otherwise it seems 12,000 is the going rate.

I just had a look around March/ April and they’re going for $169 on their ‘special fare’ which is great.

At the time of the booking the milk run was the cheapest option (with points) for the CNS-BNE route on a quick promotion.
