Hi, I have to cancel 2 business classic reward seats. When I go to cancel a note comes up saying I’ll receive a $784 credit voucher - rather than the 82,000 points I originally paid with. Is this a glitch? If I proceed will I get the voucher (which I don’t want) or will the points actually be refunded as per the cancellation policy elsewhere on the Qantas website?
Thanks.

I booked an award which later had a schedule change that I had to accept. When I eventually cancelled the booking, the system quoted me an all cash refund at the coughpy ~0.7 valuation after taking taxes into account. I thought something had gone wrong but about a month later I received the correct points and cash refund.
A return of ~0.95cpp isn’t a bad deal, especially if you don’t want the credit voucher. Assuming you don’t need the points for something else in the future I’d definitely take the cash.

Bigger picture, if this becomes a permanent feature, QFF basically just valued their points at ~0.95cpp and our points balances now have a finite value that can be ‘cashed out’ by making award seats and then cancelling for cash.

I think you'll find it's the same old same old valuation once the taxes paid in addition to those 82,000 points are taken into consideration.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If it were me, I would go through the pain of calling QF and confirming that I want and will get the points back. Frankly, a $784 voucher is a very poor swap for 82,000 points in my view.

I thought so too.
This morning I tried doing a cancellation again and it came up as the standard points cancellation (waiving the usual 6k points cancel fee) so I just cancelled - must have been a glitch in the system.

Yes it should be a glitch. Happened to me a few weeks ago. I called up QF who said the refund was in the regular loyalty refund queue. Still hasn’t been processed though.
I cancelled a classic reward flight on February 8 and the points landed in my account today. That’s a smidge under 4 weeks, so pretty good I think. Cash component may take up to another four weeks.

I'd rather that they didn't put a $ sign on points, as the ATO might start sniffing around. After Ansett fell over some people tried to make a claim on the values of the lost points, but the ATO started making noises about Fringe Benefits Tax applying if there was a monetary value
