Classic reward EK booking

Hi Brains trust,

I booked myself return flights on EK last night, taking advantage of wide open availability - not sure why that is…

For some reason booking hasn’t ticketed so I can’t manage seating etc. I’ve booked many J awards on EK over the years and they have always ticketed immediately, so this is unusual.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue or should I be following up with Qantas? I wonder if connected to current uncertainty or some other error. Flights are in only 16 days away and I need to line up a few other things for my very brief 72 hour trip to the UK!

the trick with the Qantas website and award bookings is you need to fill in the APIS section with your name / DOB / passport number before it will issue the ticket.

Thanks for the reply. Is this new - I don’t think I’ve ever done that more than 24 hours before a flight over about ten years of playing this game.

The other thing that is strange is it does not appear in my bookings. I can access the booking with the code which is only available from the transaction in the points deduction visible in activity statement.

It's been a longstanding problem, I'd say at least for 3-4 years if not a bit longer.

Note: it’s just DoB that needs to be entered ASAP for ticketing. PP can be done later.

Others have mentioned the likely reasoning although you could always call QF if you're worried about the ticketing.

That being said I am surprised you're choosing EK with a time sensitive trip. It only takes one bad day in the ME and you could be delayed a fair bit.

Not sure if you were being sarcastic, but there is a conflict going on in the immediate area around the UAE hence the widespread availability of reward seats as people look for other options.

At times e-tickets do take some time - but as per above, you'd probably need to enter your details within QFs MMB page. If that doesn't work, then a call to Qantas should help.

A few years ago I booked some business reward seats on MU (when they were still available) and my e-ticket didn't arrive until I called Qantas to follow-up.

Yes - I most certainly was being sarcastic. I have my eyes wide open to the risks - if it comes off I have J return tickets vs paying some crazy economy price to go via Asia. I wouldn’t take a trip like this flying Y - I have a three hour drive on arrival and need to be refreshed. Worth the punt in my view.

I did call them in the end - sorted immediately. No indication of the problem - I was getting error codes trying to email the itinerary. Astonishingly efficient actually with the new (to me) call centre system.
If only EK would reduce fuel fines on award bookings to encourage bookings!
Amen to that
