Apologies if there's already a thread on this and I'm late to the party...

I was just daydreaming of overseas travel and thought I'd poke around to see whether I could score hypothetical J seats to Malé some time early next year...not with the intent of actually booking while we have zero certainty on borders, merely to fantasise. I was a bit confronted with the absence of the old month-view calendar with different coloured seat icons to show days with availability by class. The new interface is horrid! (LifeMiles comes to mind). Apart from losing the calendar view, they try to trick noobies by defaulting to listing any-seat awards at exorbitant rates. You have to toggle a switch to see classic awards. But the worst bit now is that one needs to click on each individual flight option to find out if the dastardly "Your flight from x to y will be in economy" message (where x to y is invariably the longest leg of the trip...which is still charged at full J classic redemption rates). Why why why do the QF IT people keep enhancing things like this?

I agree with your IT observations!

At the bottom of the search results, there is a button that says “search for classic rewards”. This will bring up the monthly calendar that you’re looking for.

Not an enhancement to me .
Is there a way to default the screen to the original "classic award calendar "?

There is another thread and it would appear that something was enhanced in late Jan 21, I agree the new layout is horrid and suspect some will be caught out and use more points than required. @ozflier I have not found a way to get the original "classic award calendar" when searching for flights ex AU. If searching for international e.g. HND-LHR the results are presented in the "classic award calendar".

Thank you for pointing out that button waaaaaay down the bottom of the page. Silly me for thinking that by sliding the classic reward toggle at the top of the page would be enough eh...shrug. The QF IT work experience kids are at it again.

If you are logged into your account and use method at post 2, you will get calendar for destinations ex AU.

Thanks I am aware of how to get to the ex AU screen and it is annoying. I was responding to @ozflier who asked if there was a way of making the "classic view" the default view, which I do not think there is.

I'd like to be able to search for just QF classic award seats on QF metal in J/F where all flights are in the class I am searching for, but that's not an option. So it can be very painful searching for the availability of the seats I want.

I did manage to find two EK F seats a few days before flights some years back for some friends. I'd also like to try EK F on the A380 myself sometime and have an onboard shower to see what it's like so it would be nice to be able to just specify results for EK as well but one can't do that either.

I like the new one because it shows the taxes upfront. In my opinion, the calendar was often a joke given it'd show business class from Brisbane to Los Angeles but upon further inspection, it was actually BNE-SYD (in Business) and then SYD-LAX (in Economy).

This new enhancement really annoys me however @chai_1022 , @Scr77 , @ozflier and anyone else that is interested I may have found a solution that seems to get the 'classic view' as an almost default solution. I discovered by accident that if you use the multi city booking tool but only put in flight 1 it returns the 'classic award calendar' I tried this with several domestic only and ex AU international and it worked. Not sure if it works on all browsers, I mainly use chrome on a MacOS.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I am not sure you how are searching or the browser you are using but I can see classic award seat just on QF metal in the new layout which is helpful if you are looking for domestic rewards.

In the new version if you slide the option to classic rewards EK F is returned. I get you point about filtering on a single carrier but this has never been available on the old version or the new.

The only other major carrier outside of OW is SQ. They have the ability to search SQ only, *A carriers or SQ partners however the SQ system also has its limitations.

Hmmm maybe I should look at the new interface. However, I was thinking of international. Would like to get Points Club but don't currently have that. If I got Points Club then classic rewards bookings would make more sense than they currently do for me.

What ticks me off the most is when a negative implications is dressed up as a positive.
Even the banks don't do it this blatantly

I often vote with my feet but unfortunately in some cases there is no competitior to go to

I just wish other people would do so too

QF and their IT enhancements are just out of control, over the past couple of days it has been hit and miss if the “search for classic rewards" appears.
