Does that mean I can delete the app now? Not sure why they need a separate one from the main VA app...

When I got the app alert I expected 100, so a whopping 59 more points.

159 points! Really really tempted to spend them all at once... must resist.

Or 125,786 members who felt it was worth their while to enter.
Actually, I didn't enter because I knew I'd never be able to use the points without earning substantially more and it's not my primary program. So I did the right thing and didn't enter and let the points go to waste. I'm sure there were others who did not act in the same way :p

.
159 measly points .. I really wonder why anyone bothers!

Buy a box of wine on ebay and you get that many Velocity points.

Exactly.

Zero growth, even with their aggressive matching campaign.
I'd reckon zero growth is not too bad given the "collapse" of VA and the inability to travel anywhere right now. Getting confirmation that all the die-hard Velocity members are still in place (and ever-so-slightly more numerous) is surely a good result for them.

Exactly, zero growth, but also zero contraction.

Just to take myself as a case study. I transferred all my Flybuys into Velocity, and all my Velocity into Krisflyer in April (or was it March?). I have not travelled further than 30km from my house since then. I have no plans to fly any time soon. But I have managed to amass 85,000 Velocity and 154,000 Flybuys since then. Assuming others have behaved in the same way, it indicates that Velocity as a concept (from VA's perspective) still has some life in it.

Considering Velocity claimed to have 10 million members publicily, if every member redeemed you would have theorectically got 2 points.
Therefore, whilst the number of points offered the number sounds high, the number for each member would have been low.

For the 159 points it cost you nothing. If you would have purchased a bottle of wine just for the points, it would have cost something.

The reality is this a marketing campaign aimed at engaging members. In turn if they can reflect a high number of member engagement the value of Velocity goes up, which is a win for its owners.

I've managed to amass 57000 flybuys only. But Woolies is my primary shopping thing. I'm not sure what to do with them, as I don't see the need to use velocity points for flights since business class for most of my travel is only about $450 each way. Maybe for family members.
I certainly like having virgin around, and taking 159 points to show they have some supporters seems useful to me.

I saw little use to Velocity until I realised that transfers to Krisflyer offered access to the whole of the Star Alliance network, including crazy mixed carrier itineraries. I hope those transfers come back - or if not, access to some other network. I agree that redemption on only VA would offer me limited opportunities for attractive redemptions.

In April last year, I sent all my Velocity to SQ just before the option disappeared. 10 months later, I have amassed 104k Flybuys between my husband's account and my own. I am leaving them there until flights to Fiji or Bali are available. Between some Wespac Rewards on a Mastercard which I use for non-Amex and the expected 10,000 for spending x in 4 weeks by April I should have rebuilt the account back within one year to get 2 tickets to Fiji. And I do way more shopping at Woolies than at Coles so my QF have continued to increase as well. I just direct my normal shopping to whichever one has the best bonuses. I haven't applied for a new credit card in years, income challenged although with stellar payment record.
