Has anyone heard about this promo?

How many points can we realistically expect to earn (per 1,000 points transferred) with this promo?

I note that the giveaway is 5 million flybuys points, which is only 2.5 million Velocity points.

There is no way it can be enough to make it worth it - with the recent Velocity 20m giveaway I think people got 180(ish) points.

Wait for the next +15%... IMHO

Cheers

Do you think there will be another 15% bonus in the near future though? Since flybuys increased the conversion rate by 15% around the start of this year and brought in Velocity Auto Transfer, there haven't been any such promos.

Hopefully I'll be proven wrong.

My thinking is that this shows there is the potential for bonuses above the 1000FB = 500V. This will probably be tiny, but it is there. So that gives me hope that there will be a better promotion - perhaps the old style 15% - at some future point. VA will want to be selling Velocity points and I don't think they will rest until everyone is on auto-transfer.

My take, the answer to life = 42. :)

I may transfer a few K just for fun ... or not.

Not gonna do the auto transfer certainly.

At this stage, keeping ones powder dry is where it's at, although we recently redeemed 20k for $100 cause we could.

It is not the most enticing offer, I'm still using Flybuys for money off my shop at the moment. I would much rather use it for flights, but I'm unsure of VA's direction. You can't even use points for international short-haul reward seats on VA, nor their partners.

This is a very boring promotion in line with pretty much everything VA2 has done since the relaunch. Sigh.

I am going to be more positive. In April last year, Velocity looked dead. In recent weeks we have started to see green shoots - talks of partnerships with Air Canada, gradual reopening of redemption options, promotions (albeit not yet totally enticing ones). At least this shows me they are actively trying to grow Velocity.

True, its better than radio silence, lets just hope it gets more interesting....

The wholesale value of points has always been 2:1, so whenever they ran uplift promos in the past they were simply supplying them at cost. Virgin's expense for those campaigns was limited to marketing/awareness.

With the baseline redemption value now at wholesale - a move that's in line with the everyday value narrative that VA2 are trying to push - I can't see them paying out of pocket for future uplift promotions. It'll be more of this bonus type activity where they can limit and control the expenses.

Anyone got their share.

I transfer a decent chunk of flybuys to top up on 3 business awards, so a timely and useful promo for me

That's not even comparable. The 20 million points promo had a very very low qualification hurdle. You just had to click a link in the app. Extremely easy for people to get a share.

This promo is based on transferring points, so someone has to actually have points to transfer, have a need to transfer and then lock in the transferred points to velocity. They forgo a potential discount on their shopping. And if only the minimum is transferred then you only get one share of the 5 million.

I transferred 108k Flybuys and was awarded 1132 flybuys under the promo. I turned on auto-transfer so would have got 2 shares instead of 1 share. This means those that manually transferred would have been awarded 5.24 flybuys per 1000 transferred and if you were on auto-transfer you would have received 10.48 per 1000 flybuys. What a rubbish promo. Note for next time do not participate 😂

You might want to follow up with flybuys, I got 10.48 points per 1000 and do not have auto transfer turned on.

I don't see it as a rubbish promo. I needed to transfer points to buy awards in business, and as a bonus I got some more points.
