Hello all!

So there is a thread on AFF about the F Lounge getting quite crowded etc and I have been noticing that recently.

Do you think that a dedicated CL/P1/F international lounge could work? I know that I would like this!

It could be a smaller lounge with a spa, restaurant and some more premium features. What would you include? Might be a bit of fun :D

Are you talking about SYD? I've not yet seen the MEL F lounge so crowded.

I wouldn't want to see this type of lounge.

I'd rather a dedicated lounge for actual F travellers, regardless of their status.

What a nuisance those WPs and their guests are clogging up the F lounge! :p :D

Seriously though, I think you will see "enhancements" to access privileges before Qantas drops millions of dollars on more lounges especially when to them F is dying.

I would be curious though to hear what else people could desire beyond the current F lounge offering. More spa spots and more lavish food perhaps:?::?:

Maybe 10-20 people a day (or so - the true F-class purchasers) in MEL? It's a nice idea but...

I like the hustle & bustle of a lively, lounge.....it screams - come in, indulge, enjoy & most importantly, have fun:!:

I've experienced an F only lounge - BA CCR. The ambience was very different, like a blanket smothering all signs of life. Not my cup of tea but YMMV.

I doubt QF have the need, demand, money or inclination to create another level of lounge.

Self service S&P squid would satisfy me nicely :)

(</tongue-in-cheek>)

I would actually enhance the programme with CL. Minimum WP status earn before access. That will quickly cleanse the lounge of freeloaders.

boss I completely agree with you but unfortunately that would not work financially. It would not need to have anything more lavish just a smaller more exclusive version. A small 40 or so seat lounge with the same foods and what not. But with better and more personalised services on offer.

The lounges must have filled substantially since my last visits - back then I was set upon pretty quickly, offered menus, orders taken, remembered and delivered.

Same here - when I was at the MEL F and LHR T3 Galeries First lounges, it was so quiet and empty I was almost afraid to make a noise.

It felt almost lonely but those flying much more than me would probably long to see the lounges this peaceful. As would celebrities especially if wanting to avoid the riff-raff - they've worked hard their whole lives to become famous and then wear sunglasses to avoid being recognised :p

I hear you.

I wasn't even thinking a separate lounge necessarily. Maybe a little like BA Galleries where you can all mingle, but when dining etc, a more intimate area for those in F.

I haven't had any bad experiences in the MEL or SYD F lounges. I quite like them. I do have a preference for a bit of peace and quiet though.

BTW... I am NOT in favour of WP's losing anything out of any potential changes. Rather, I'd like a little more for those travelling in F.

Not much more in SYD, how many QF flights have F these days? LAX,LHR,HGK (not even daily)....then BA, then nothing!

I might have forgotten some but I make it 56 F seats a day if fully booked & thats counting HGK (not daily) & 14 on BA!

A QF F only lounge could be the size of shoe box....except they probably couldn't fit the egos in;)

oh god, they should come up with some sort of duelling system, come in and compare your SC.

I do think the opportunity exists for QF to create an F Lounge for F passengers (and CL) similar to the current set-up that BA have at LHR T5.
Since BA seem to have got a few things wrong there is definitely room for improvement.
Maybe a coughtail list, Oyster Bar and a chauffeur onto the tarmac a la LH FCT ;)

For a start, they should cut out access while flying JQ, similar to how they cut out access while flying Air Pacific.

If there ever is an example where QF and JQ are operating as separate entities (as they claim), this is a scenario to practise it.

Either that, JQ should build their own lounge.

Hello all!

So there is a thread on AFF about the F Lounge getting quite crowded etc and I have been noticing that recently.

Do you think that a dedicated CL/P1/F international lounge could work? I know that I would like this!

1/ The F lounge is not crowded.

I regularly fly on QF 11, and connect into SYD on 921. Which means I'm in the lounge by either 9 or 10am (depending on daylight savings), and boarding at 14:30.

Sometimes F, sometimes J, sometimes Y.

I sit through and see all the stages of F lounge occupancy (QF107, QF11, the AKL flights etc). The lounge is busiest ahead of 107 and 11, and quickly empties after these flights.

The lounge is NOT crowded. I, nor anyone I have ever witnessed has ever not been able to get a quiet seat, get breakfast/lunch table, get waiter service, get a shower etc. and I've had a pretty good run on the spa - 60% success when not flying F. 100% success for prebooking when I am flying F. Given CLs can prebook - this certainly isn't an issue.

In fact - some like the ambience of SYD as opposed to the emptiness of MEL which sometimes makes you wonder if you need a shower ;).

2/ It seems to be me that your gripe/concern is the lack of exclusivity and that perhaps you might catch something from some lowly WP filth that shouldn't be above their station.

With all due respect, IMHO, as a CL you already get your bum wiped by QF (I don't), you get a spa booking regardless of what class you fly (I do only when flying F), you fly F usually so your exclusivity and extra bum-wiping occurs once you board. Not to mention that you get a personal escort from the car to the lounge just in case you forgot how to survive daily life or in case you forgot where the lounge was.

Given the above - I think you're being precious.

3/ If you do desire more quiet ambience, exclusivity, place to relax without the crowds then I suggest three options:

- sit in the Library (there's never anyone in there).
- book a private room at the F lounge
- fly ex-MEL (It's never crowded, even right before QF93).

4/ I didn't think the CCR was anything special. Dining was nice, although I prefer the restaurant feel of QF F lounge rather than the dingy booth dining at CCR.
In fact I didn't really care either way for the "emptiness" of the CCR. After dinner and a few drinks, I actually left and went to the Galleries F lounge for more ambience.

5/ QF didn't build/design the F lounge for the exclusive use of F/CL pax. If it did, it would be the size of BNE or AKL F lounge.
QF built/designed the lounges for exactly the pax whom have access.

6/ There is already a very distinguishable difference in service provided in the lounge for F/CL pax vs vanilla WPs flying whY. I have had no issues with either level of service and feel they are totally appropriate.

The lounge has a whole isn't crowded, IMHO - busy at times, yes. However, the restaurant can be crowded - visit around 5pm, I haven't been able to get a table on multiple occasions.

At the same time, maybe a lack of working surface is an issue because a lot of people continue to occupy tables after eating while they work on their laptops. Maybe staff can politely ask them to move along? Also, while improved from their initial launch, serving speed can still be improved. I think improving these two aspects can help reduce the impression the lounge is over-crowding.

Introducing a new lounge to improve your offering - sure, by all means! Introducing a lounge to solve over-crowding - I'm not sure.
