Hi all,

Does anyone know if the free Citibank Travel Insurance offered when you book your flights on a CB CitiBusiness Gold Card (I assume the same isurance as a regular CB Gold Card) is worth the paper it's written on?

I can't for the life of me find the details of it either online or in the documentation original sent with my card.

Cheers!

CitiBusiness Gold is identical to CB Gold :

Loss/Damage of baggage,clothing,personal valuables,electrical equip - $3,000+ per item

Loss/Damage of cameras & assoc equip - $3,000+ per item

Loss/Damage of laptops or business effects - $3,000+ in total

Loss of travel docs, travellers cheques, credit card etc - $300 single, $550 family.

Thanks for the info... might have to ring them to try and get a copy of the T&C's.

Speaking of ringing them, that'd probably be the biggest concern with their TI - needing to speak to them if something went wrong :-S

Thanks, don't know why I couldn't find that myself.
It's buried under Useful Forms & Links. I only know because it took me quite some time to find it when I first got my gold card.

I have a CB Plat card which I got in 2006. I have on my desk at the moment a booklet entitled International Travel Insurance Terms and Conditions Platinum Cardholder's Policy. Once I have complted the arrangements for my RTW trip later this year I will read this carefully to see whether it will suit my needs. Needless to say I am buying each shred of travel and accom on my CB card and filing the receipts to take with me. There is a contact number underneath the website provided by Kate but I think it is a dedicated CB Plat number. Anyway, it is 1800 818 008

Once you have reviewed the policy could you post back what your thoughts are? Obviously everyone's travel insurance needs are different, but I'd be curious to hear what you think of it.

CitiBank outsource their insurance to Zurich. Ive limited experience and don't pay much attention to the Insurance associated with the card. I've made one claim previously against a card (Westpac Gold) - also outsourced to Zurich.

I'm guessing its a fairly closed field. Zurich provide insurance to Citibank, Westpac and ....... Dunno - are there any other players out there ??.

My experience with the Westpac claim was that I was dealing with Zurich as soon as I phoned the credit card andv reported I had a problem.

While I haven't used it, a look through the terms and conditions shows that it doesn't expressly cover ski/other equipment hire, slope closure and that sort of thing, which is why I will be purchasing a separate policy for Japan later in the year. Travel insurance direct are pricing out at $73 for 2 weeks, though I've never had to claim through them.

My apologies to mattjk for not replying earlier. Yes - its true that CB outsource to Zurich. One thing I find strange is that on the CB website there is a travel insurance link that takes you to QBE (I think - if its not then it's CGU). There you can get a quote for TI. I got a quote and it came up $730. Now why would I pay this when I can get "free" travel insurance with the card? mattjk - I had a look at the international TI part of the booklet and it says that they cover you for:
  • medical and hospital expenses incurred overseas
  • Loss or damage to personal property and business effects
  • Unexpected cancellation of travel arrangements andother unexpected expenses
  • Travel delay
  • Rental vehicle excess
  • Legal liability
  • and a lot of other nasties
It just struck me as strange that CB have a built-in insurance that defaults to Zurich and another offer (BTW sign up to the other offer before June 2008 and you will be in the running to win 100 000 QF FF points!!!!) with a competing insurer.

Mabunji - other players include AIG, most of the medical benefits funds and most general insurers. If you're not confused now, then I am:?:

I presume the travel insurance also covers additional card holders?
