Citibank 70,000 QFF points $149 annual fee first year 0% BT for 6 months

I found trying to cancel the thing the most frustrating part of the experience - took me a good while to navigate phone banking to the point where I got an operator.

Once we we were done with me rebuffing the attempts to keep me as a customer they just sort of hung up on me!

I also found navigating the phone banking to get to an operator frustrating.

Yeah they got a bit narky in the end. Was not happy to let me go.
 
After being stuffed around for five months then being told I would have to start a new application, I have given up: not prepared to take another hit on my credit score.

Never thought I would give up on 70k points!

Unfortunately this has been my experience with Citi as well.

Your experience adds credence to my and other AFF members advice to never deal with Citi.
 
I was a novice at cc sign ups. They made 2 credit enquires and then have been the only card to knock me back. Aversion to them now.
 
GMOH you need to do that university course on Tenacity100 when you are dealing with Citibank. We had early issues but now we are running a lot better.....helped by rarely calling them. Try,try again.
Mrscove remains unimpressed that with same assets and income her credit limit on Citi is $40,000 less.
She does dine out on World CC where her limit is $63,000 more.
If you think about it you realize that the retail divisions of banks have systems that are pretty weak.
 
Cove, I have done 7 cc sign ons this year and am standing by to cancel a few once the bonuses emerge. I may wait awhile now for another application. However, I said that 4 weeks ago and then got the Westpac free 50K QF.

Of course; and this has been my experience with Citi at times as well.

At other times I have had better experiences with Citi so, for a possible 70k, I thought it worth the effort.

I did manage to get them to refund half the annual fee on my CBG as compensation for the frustration (something is better than nothing). So now just waiting for the next statement on my existing card to make sure there are no outstanding direct debits, etc., and I'll ring to cancel.

I agree there are easier pickings out there.

I'd advise to send a letter to cancel.

Citi have no ability to effectively action or record phone calls. 2 months later they'll claim that you never called them.
 
Been a bit lax with cancellations but finally got around to it this week for this card - frustrating experience as expected with multiple attempts to transfer us to other cards etc. This was compounded by an accidental overpayment of the account on my part a few days earlier.

Has anyone else closed an account with credit owing to them from the bank? We've been advised a cheque will be sent in the mail in 7-10 days - just wondering if this is the normal process.

Yep normal process - have had it with Citi, ANZ, NAB - usually for refund Ann fee - sometimes they will ask you for another acc they can transfer to but either way never failed to receive. Westpac usually transfer into a Savings acc I have with them.
 
just got my 70k points.. will be cancelling it next week..
not sure what reasons i should give.. so that they will just agree to cancel and prorate the annual fees..

So followed this up with Citi today and now told that the reimbursement cheque will arrive on 5th Feb... :evil: Not happy!!
 
Up until now this card has been great for me. Today I got a call out of the blue from Citi. I was told given I have held the card for a while and it was in good standing they would "give me access to another $8.5k" in case I "have any big expenses". I said "no, I don't want a credit limit increase". "Not even a partial increase?" - "No!", *hang up sound*. The guy just hung up on me without even saying bye!

Couldn't believe the rudeness and the fact that I wasn't ASKED for a Credit Limit increase but was basically being told they were giving me one. I'm sure this is illegal. Cancelling my card ASAP.

Also, I called to cancel the card while ago and they offered lifetime no fees and no late fees either. thinking about it. Maybe the other 70k points is to keep me in :)

Decide whether to keep the card, but do not mention the possible double points. Move them asap.
