Card Promotions Citi Prestige Credit Card: 300,000 Citi Rewards Points

I called twice before being billed and they said no to discount both times. Rang straight after being billed and got $350 back. Note, I did not say I was going to cancel, just the cost was too much for the benefits and I discussed what benefits were of no value to me and they gave me the discount. As I understand it, Aust laws prevent trying to stop a customer cancelling through incentives, so that is why I did not suggest cancelling……. If your current desire is to cancel, then you should be able to be more overt and get the whole $700 back. I have never had that rejected when requested and it is not far past billing date.
So just had the fee charged for my new year.
Called up and was declined any discount. I did ask if they could please follow this up with a supervisor to see if they could offer any discount.
Now waiting on a return phone call from them.

I called up and was denied the discount. I called back, got someone else who was happy to process half back.

they did call back but i missed their call.
When i have some spare time, i'll try again.
So made another call,

Not able to discount it, and would only offer a $$ on pro rata on meeting 3 criteria- Held card for more than 3 months, 2. been charged the fee, and 3, cancelling the card.

I did mention that i had "friends " who had received a discount, and was told there was a recent change.

Guess i'll hang onto the card until that 20k points per monthly transfer deal expires.

I've opened up a second card in addition to the Citi Prestige. Is it possible to take advantage of a 0% balance transfer on the new card and transfer from the citi prestige card?

I would have to time the transfer right with my citi pay all monthly transfer date. Has anyone done this or is there anything else I need to be aware of?

Anyone else got offered a half annual fee and then another half off that remaining annual fee? Essentially only paying $175 to keep the card for another year.
Email went something like this:

Great news X,

Half of your annual fee on your Citi Prestige Card ending in xx_X which was deducted in January 2024 has now been reversed.

Has anyone been able to work out the 2 and 3 point spend categories and where it will work?
I convert to Krisflyer but wife also has the Amex Plat. Citi is slightly better conversion rate at the 2-3 points per $ earn rate (0.8 or 1.2/$ vs 0.75/$).

More interested in the:
1. Major restaurants - is this all restaurants, only chains, expensive restaurants etc
2. National retailers - is this basically anything that's franchised nationally or only the likes of Myer, DJs etc

think i'm comfortable with the other categories, but really unsure on the above so have just been using Amex instead rather than risking it.

After a spate of rejections in November/December (Virgin, Citi Loan and Amex) I was dreading my next Citi application. Happily I was approved for this Prestige card the same day I fired in the application. The annual fee is eye watering, but I have a number of flights coming up in the next 12 months where I will use the Priority Pass so that takes care of at least half of the membership fee. On the down side, this means keeping a card open for 12 months with a $20,000 limit which, when added to my ANZ Travel Adventures keeper ($8,000 limit) may make churning a mite harder...

I had a Citi Prestige but had to close it earlier this year due to taking out a mortgage. From memory, "major restuaurants" was actually quite lax - any spend that I made where the merchant classified itself as "eatery" or "dining" seemd to attract the extra bonus points, regardless if it was fine dining at the Sheraton or my local kebab shop. National retailers seemed to be mostly big name stores like Myer, DJ, Kmart, Bunnings, Big W etc

thanks for this, good to know.

From memory, there wasn’t a way to tell how many points were awarded per transaction? How is this being verified?

Interesting discussion re the 3 2 1 points at various establishments.
I have never seen the value in this.
Supermarket bill - max 5k per year.
Restaurants maybe 5-10k per year
Other expenses 100k+
It's just too hard for me to try to compute. Amex or prestige. 1.125 or 0.4, 0.8, 1.2 and no certainty on prestige earn in each establishment.
I have had the prestige at $350 for 1yr only.
300k points.
Multiple prestige lounge visits home and overseas including double-ups in Melbourne and Sydney.
I got my value.

I often use it to buy packaged snacks that I can during the trip. A fair few of them sell merchandise too, like travel mugs etc. Haven't been brave enough to buy them using Priority Pass though.

It's opaque cos Citi awards points in a lump sum per statement. But you can generally get an idea of which transactions earned how many points by doing a process of elimination when you get your monthly statement.

Has anyone tried and or successfully had their $700 annual fee halved or other lately. Mine is due as of my new statement received this month. I just phoned citi and was flatly told that the citi prestige would not be discounted and there are other citi cards with lower fees if I was interested. I mentioned the ending of Diners and the current economic climate but my contact was not interested one little bit.
