China Airlines reward seats using Qantas points

Just curious how the carry on luggage was controlled ? It appears to be less than Qantas. Just curious as I wait out the time for my Seoul trip
Going from SIN - TPE in J, the check-in agent just added their 'Approved carry-on' tag to my wheeler. But returning TPE - SIN in PE, the check-in agent weighted the bag (11.5 kg against the 7 kg rule, my bad...) and I ended up checking it in as a second bag.

But CI also exceeded my expectations in checking bags through on a separate ticket (some details here). I travelled very light for 24 hours. 😆

7kg in economy I presume?

For the best part of the last year China Airlines have had loads of J from Melbourne to Taipei on their redeye. Now, since the ability to redeem QFF points on China Airlines on to further destinations was introduced, there seems to be nothing higher than Premium Economy out of Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne for the next few months. Do you think this is because there has been a run of people booking China Airlines premium cabins using QFF? Or does anybody have any insight? Using multi city search of course. Cheers in advance!

Definitely the connections onward to Europe and North America increased demand but also the general lack of premium awards on other airlines using Qantas points.
We're looking to sneak off to Asia for a few weeks this month and we always wanted to see Taipei, but alas only PE heading there. Loads of J to HK on Cathay and QANTAS, but a little jittery about HK nowadays. Otherwise, plenty of J and F on Emirates to Singapore ($1200 taxes one way though, lol) and even BA J available. Nada to Bkk directly of course. Even some J from Syd to Seoul the other day. So everybody but China Airlines currently! I've been playing about and racking my brains - any combos I've missed? JAL is fairly limited too at the moment.

Awesome, thank you this sorted it out. I was selecting 'manage booking' when I didn't need to.

Just for everyone else that is confused. Download the China Airlines app > my booking > booking inquiry > select flight > passenger (top of screen) > seat
I had the same issues as other posters when trying to select seats - using the above method on the app worked (entering in Firstnamemiddlename with no space in between).

However, if I use the 'seat selection' function on the app home page, it did NOT work and would return the error message.

I don't know what they changed because back in January I had booked a flight on CI using qantas points and I selected my seat on the CI website just fine, but now it does not work any more.

Try QF SYD to CGK or MNL.
Often good J availability and minimal carrier charges.
MNL often has pretty good J prices to TPE on either Eva or China Airlines or good availability of award flights on China Airlines

Did you go to T1 or T2? Definitely worth going to T1 and then walking back through to T2 for the flight.
In my instance I went to the T1 primary lounge (next to the Plaza Premium) and was turned away because it was full, so they were only allowing people who were flying out of T1 in.

Fair enough. T2 felt decidedly downmarket compared to T1 - more cafeteria than lounge!
Yeah that's what I gather too. I asked nicely (in Chinese) if I could just have a quick look inside as it was my first time flying CI J, but she declined and said T2's lounge was just as nice (a lie).

As described above if your middle name is not on the ticket they add it during check-in at the airport, no stress. It's not going to stop you from flying, but CI (as with some other airlines), do require that the ticket/boarding pass exactly match your passport.
Thank you for that info. I have booked China airlines and Qantas put my husbands middle initials on the ticket and left my middle name off all together. Was worried we would not be allowed to board which would have been a pain given we will be flying from Denpasar and not Australia.

Does anyone know what lounge access is available at Heathrow when travelling J with China Airlines?

I am looking to book two business class China Airlines flights from Europe to Brisbane in mid-July next year after succesfully booking flights to Europe in mid June. Availability was looking good but July 2024 availability on China Airlines is thinning out considerably. TPE-BNE J availability has "switched off" in July after great availability in June. Interestingly, TPE-AKL J availability is good for July 2024, which is surprising considering this is the same flight is TPE-BNE that continues onto AKL (something to do with married segments I presume). I'm wondering if I can book the TPE-AKL flight and ask at check-in if we can leave the flight in BNE? (TPE-BNE and TPE-AKL costs the same points and only a little more in taxes/fees).
