Has anyone applied for a Chilean visa recently? SAC: Sistema Atención Consular - Ciudadanos

I'm about half way through and I hope to God that I'm doing something wrong. I've applied for a few complex visas in my time - Russia and India come to mind - but this one is just loopy!!

'Occupation' - there is a list of hundreds of occupations, some bizarre and not in alphabetical order (I'm guessing they are in order, in Spanish) and 'retired' doesn't appear to be an option.

'Countries visited' - no time frame given. The drop down list is in Spanish - I eventually found Inglaterra and Alemania.

My TA says at some point I have to upload months of bank statements to prove income. Retired ....

It asks for hotel confirmation ... then:
Documents attesting to the relationship between guest and host, apostilled or with local legalization stamp, or from the Chilean civil registry

I have no idea what that means. Do they want some local certification of my reservation?

Help!

Sorry I can’t help personally but there is quite a thread on Trip Advisor where you might pick up some tips

I lodged my visa application a few weeks ago, and checking the progress, it says 'On hold'.

That's a bit concerning (not 'in process'?), so I called the Melbourne Consulate. Answered immediately. 'On hold' is OK BUT - told that they only process visa applications month-to-month. October travel processed in September. So my December travel - with expensive cruise - won't get processed until November. 🤷‍♂️.

I'm not expecting a problem, but that's too tight for comfort. She was very re-assuring, said to call in November and they'll see to it. Hmmmm...

OMG! I haven’t started yet!

OMG I am going through all this right now. Submitted my application over a month ago and it still says on hold. Departing in 3 weeks. Starting to panic as my flight is booked through Santiago and will have to change my flights to Lima so that I can check my luggage all the way through otherwise wont be able pick my bags up in Santiago. The Consulate in Melbourne isnt answering their phone. EEEk :(

My recent experience:

I applied for a transit visa for Chile on 13 Aug for entry on 14 Oct and received the visa on 1 Oct, so around 2 weeks before my arrival.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, probably too late for me to apply for that, but I have never been able to find the application for it.

Yep, the transit visa I was referring to is the free 72 hour visa

That visa does not sound like it would be applicable to a Silversea Antarctica expedition, even if you fly in just the day before. Is it a multi-entry visa? That first arrival is for 72 hours, but then there is a second entry to Chile after the cruise.

You would probably require a multi entry 90 day visa.... or 2 of the 72 hours visas.

I can see you are traveling in Dec so you should be ok with receiving your multiday in time. I managed to get through to the consulate this morning and the nice lady said she would pass my details on. Am starting to panic though as travelling in just under 3 weeks.

I have submitted my application. It lodged successfully, but no request for payment was made. Has anyone else paid?

Just after I submitted the application, my travel agent sent me the Silversea guest copy of the booking, which showed a nil balance owing and the hotel reservation on the second page. Too late now, I think, to add it on.
