Not sure if this is the right place to post this. I searched MH forum for any threads on the topic, there were a few but all closed. So because I made this booking using QF points, I thought it would be ok to post here. Mods, please move this post as you see fit. Apologies & thank you in advance.

I just booked Y SYD-KUL-MAA on MH using QF points (CR) on QF website. The booking class on MH website shows as X (which is the same booking class on QF website as well). I tried to MMB on QF website to select seats, did not work. So headed to MH website to do MMB.

When selecting Services - I see that there is a "Chef on Call" menu, in addition to the "Special Dietary Meals".

I don't fly MH that often. So I was surprised to see this "Chef on Call", which I think is similar to BTC on SQ, which is typically offered to J/F pax? I have booked Y only ...

Point to note is my parents & siblings fly MH more than I do, but I have never seen this Chef on Call thing when doing MMB on their bookings earlier. Their flights typically originate outside of AU. So I first thought may be this is an ex-AU thing only, but there is no meals available to select for the SYD-KUL sector

But I can select a meal on the KUL-MAA sector ...

Not sure what your question is but it looks like it’s basically a meal choice guarantee in Y. Makes sense it is from the home base only.

As indicated by @puchu , it is simply preordering in economy.

Same meals as offered, you just lock yours in and sometimes get it earlier than most.

I have been able to do this a couple of times out of KUL.

Sorry I missed the notifications on this one. I had a lot of notifications and this one landed at the bottom.

My point was - I had seen this before on MH ... I understand that this basically a meal choice guarantee, just that I have not seen/experienced this before. So it was more of a surprise for me to see this on MH. I did MAA-KUL-MEL a few months back, but this Chef on Call was not offered ... this was in Nov 2023.

Yea, makes sense it is out of KUL only.

Hope they don't get their expectations too high. Flew J with MH139 overnight KUL-ADE (edit : ADL) about 15 months ago, and the meal service was shocking. Satays were served still frozen on the inside, service haphazard and crew disinterested. A long way down on what they were when I flew them previously.

They didn't provide even a meal other than the satays on our flight KL to Adelaide last year. In J.

MH had a lot of catering issues for many months until late-ish last year.

(they changed their main caterer)

They are hopefully solved now!
