Using the seat maps on checkmytrip, if a seat is marked as "available" does that mean it's likely to be vacant?

I'm heading to LAX on Sunday and I checked on their website, and the seat next to mine was listed as available, but now this morning its marked as occupied. The joys of whY!

If it was available and now is occupied, then it likely means that it is occupied

Within about 5 days of a flight; QF seat maps change - showing many more seats allocated. This is apparent on both CMT and EF.

What it generally means is that Qantas are allocating seating for those booked passengers who previously has no allocation.

One good thing is you can still actually see a seat map - when loads are really heavy, you generally can't.

Ahh that explains it then, because when i checked earlier there seemed to be a lot of empty seats. I assumed that Sunday night flights to LAX would be busy as its a good flight for start a week in the US.
