Do Qantas enforce their checked baggage dimensions at JFK? I'm bringing two bags back which are just over the 62 inch size limit - and hence well over the combined 106in limit (economy). I've never seen checked bags being measured for size in US airports, so I'm guessing their check-in staff won't bother with this. Anyone ever been measured?

Never had bags measured at JFK, despite some of them being more than 62 inches just in length. Last trip through I checked in three cases of camera gear that were 68 x 18 x 20 inches each and they never even blinked.

I think you will find these rules come from pax like me who check bulky items, like I do rolls of fabric that are 210x60x60cm aka 83x24x24 inches, and only weigh 20kg. They simply had to write a limit for difficult sized options if they choose to enforce it.

One of the main reasons I fly EK by choice.

I have had the porters double check the weight of my case (I call it the coffin, it is not oversize, but its shape can make it harder to pick up, but in reality it is just a Samsonite hard case).

it is always over-weight for economy, but normally mid 20's but I travel J and am WP so can carry up to 32kg

they are very surprised when sub 55lbs comes up on the scales....
