We all crave that elusive "free up-grade"and would like your thoughts on check-in times .We are flying on MAS at midnight in May 'and there seem to be business seats available. Also have already requested seats in economy as far front as possible and have been given seats one row back as they apparently keep first row in case of people travelling with babies ,We had planned to check in as early as possible and recheck if first seats behind business are available .Any thoughts on this ? Of course we would really like that up-grade 'so does check-in time make a difference ?
thanks ' Jen

Unfortunately free upgrades to business class are not just handed out!

For starters economy needs to be oversold and everyone requesting a seat including standby passengers want to check-in. It then depends on what status you have with the airline you are flying. Just because you have front seats mean absolutely nothing. Turn up early for check-in means nothing. Turn up late for check-in means nothing.

If flight is oversold then higher status frequent flyers would be upgraded first to business class until economy seating is OK.

Airlines do not try to fill up business class to leave economy empty. So unless flight has economy fully booked it means nothing how many seats are available in business class.

I have no knowledge of MAS upgrade policy so cannot really comment on it.

However, as far as the front seats go, one would hope that by the day of travel they know who has got babies so they should know how many bassinets they need. I would suggest your best shot woud be to checkin early for this and see if they are available as you have suggested.

Thanks Guy's As I said we all crave ----so there is no harm in wishing .Will check-in early as see/hope no babies are in front .Also realize that you get what you pay for ;and it sounds as if MAS is still as good as I remember
