Hi All,

A Japanese exchange student staying with us for the last 10 weeks has decided to go to NZ to visit his grandparents and has booked a return flight SYDNEY-AUCKLAND-SYDNEY via Air New Zealand and on his return trip from Auckland, he has to wait for 4 hours before he catches his flight home to Narita via Japan Airlines.

My question is whether he is able to check he is able to check his luggage through from Auckland to Narita during his 4 hour transit in Sydney, or does he have to check out and check in again.

Thanks for any feedback.

Regards,

RS

Yes - very doable! Have done it myself. Will most likely have to go to a transfer desk to get the boarding card for Narita but he won't see the bags in Sydney!

It is down to the airline.

Air New Zealand can, if it wants to, check the bags through but they are under no obligation to do so since these are separate bookings

With 4 hours, there isn't too much of a risk anyway in picking bags up and checking back in
