Ah, in which case you must take the airb*s. ;)

There are very, very few domestic NZ inter-island flights using airbus (only NZ A320 repositioning flights).

However, I sometimes take the airb*s on the way to the airport. Does that count?

How flexible are these DONE4/DONE3 fares? This year is pretty much locked in (until my boss comes back from leave this morning in the US ;)) but I really think I might explore this for next year.
DONE4, my ticket of choice! There's a lot of rules, but basically you need to make a minimum of three stopovers and ten days, and choose a direction to do it in. You have a year to get the thing done. If you hang out in this forum you will get some amazing routings that can theoretically get you to platinum in two successive years.

Where I went wrong on my last one was having to fly to Charleston, which is only served by oneWorld through a dinky little one-class Embraer from DFW, and my darling TA flew me London-Birmingham via Dublin on Aer Lingus, again a one-class deal each way. That pulled me down below the 1400 SC I needed, but I'll claw them back in a few weeks. The story of that trip is told elsewhere.

No, there are no minimum stopover requirements for DONEx tickets. The only rule relating to stopovers is the maximum of 2 in your continent of origin.

And as Kiwi Flyer pointed out, there is no minimum stay rule for DONEx fares purchased in SWP region.

So from Australia, you could travel SYD-LAX-LHR-SYD on connecting flights if you really wanted.

Well they are suggesting a global finance conference in New York (or a heads of audit conference in maybe Paris  (not a fan of the french and have no interest in going to france) so if it comes off I might try and work out a way to do a trip SYD-LAX-JFK-LHR-PFO-DBX-HKG-PER-SYD (guess I will have to charge the JFK-LHR flight to QF not AA).

Really hope that is doable :/

If you are crediting to AA, you could use AA for the JFK-LHR flight

Ah. Must be the LONE4 I did last year. I spent a week in London and four days in Fort Worth, and had to make a third stop to get the fare, so I chose San Francisco, which was pure gravy.

My personal preference is to fly westward because the days are longer and you don't usually have to make early morning departures or late night arrivals.

It's all so much more civilised that way!

There is no difference in stopovers or min stay rules for LONE4 vs DONE4. The min stay is exempt for all OneWorld Explorers purchased in the SWP region, and there is no min stopovers for any OneWorld Explorer fare regardless of purchase region or class of travel.

I totally agree with that preference.

See why I hang out here? When I stuff things up, as I usually do, someone will come along and set me straight. This group isn't quite a moral compass, but rather something far more valuable.

OK. It was a Global Explorer I did last April. At that stage, I knew nothing, and just let the TA get me around. I cringe when I think of the opportunities missed!

so, in the best scenario, 205-120=85SC
worst scenario, 205-60=145SC

is it worth to do a status run to get Platinum....?
100% bonus......
In my opinion it is worth it, especially if you are that close. Status run would cost somewhere between $600-$1000 depending on how many SC's you need.

When you say you normally travel to Asia, is it SIN? BKK? For work travel, do you have to travel directly? You can normally route say a SYD-SIN flight to SYD-BNE-SIN for not much more than the direct flight. You do the same for the return flight and it is 80 SC's instead of 60 SC's. Gets you closer to the target and less you have to spend on the status run.

It is *A RTW that has the minimum of 3 stopovers rule.

Yeah, OK, rub it in. I'll just go sit in the corner awhile and drool quietly into my beard.

DONE4 is my ticket of choice, the Global Explorer thing was my TA's. She saved me a few hundred dollars on the trip, it must be said.

Ah yes, the Global Explorer does indeed have a minimum of 3 stopovers. But the min stay is not applicable to business and first class fares commencing in SWP. The min stay of 10 days does apply to economy class Global Explorer
