ok not QFF question, directly but I do want to fly QF

I have been looking at flights for 10th of Sept from Europe to AU and noticed that for example its cheaper to get flight from frankfurt (via dbx) to Mel than from DBX to Melbourne. even more strange is that both use QF10 to get back to melbourne, and the Frankfort one has a ba flight attached.
Considering I don't care where I fly out of , can anyone suggest the cheapest place ?

dbx to melb 1129.90 on saver fare
frankfurt to melbourne 1033.65 also on saver

thanks

Now, if I were in your shoes, and money and time was not important, (in a way it all is of course, eh, but still, (giggly pooch face on)) and earning SC was important too, I would do this.
Take Qatar Air (in OW alliance to earn QFFpoints and SC), from DXB to FRA, and get QF10 from FRA back to DXB to MEL!
Granted that earning QFFpoints and SC are now less on OW alliance airlines, and to most others, my suggestion would be a silly idea, but if getting to your next QF tier is important, do as I suggest.
$$$ and time consuming, with one (unnecessary stopover in DOH), yes, collection of QF SC, yes too!

I know, it's very strange but it's often more expensive to fly directly from Dubai to Australia than it is to fly from Europe to Australia, via DXB on the same flight. I presume you're starting off somewhere in Europe? It's generally best to start at a European port (NOT in the UK), so e.g. FRA, AMS, perhaps CDG and then either catch a BA flight to LHR to pick up the QF10, or catch an Emirates flight (with QF code) to DXB, then pick up QF10 from there. For your date of travel, there is a good connection from Frankfurt taking QF8046 (operated by Emirates) to DXB, then connecting to QF10 DXB-MEL. You could also go via London and take Qantas the whole way but travel time and cost is slightly more. I didn't have a look at other ports but generally any port outside the UK is good. Keep looking, you'll find something.

I usually find that places like MXP & BCN often have very competitive fares in Europe for some reason. Certainly government charges less taxes in Italy and Spain. Also from UK, try Belfast, IIRC, the government doesn't charge air passenger duty from Northern Ireland!

It does depend if you want QF metal all the way (from Europe, i.e. via LHR), or you are happy with a QF codeshare on Emirates switching to QF at DXB. This may open up cheaper options.

MXP and FCO are generally the two cheapest ports to exit Europe on the QF/EK network.

From time to time there are sale fares from other ports, but usually these tickets have a limited stay period of around 3-5 months.

Currently O/W on the date you nominated I can see PRG-MEL x/DXB on QF code the whole way for AU$1,158.85.

+1 for MXP but i've also found NCE reasonably priced (but its very variable - I assume quite seasonal).
