Hi all,

Was trying to book a return ticket MEL-SIN-IST. 72,250 miles + something like AUD 880

Unfortunately, my preferred outbound flight was a waitllist so decided to:
- secure the inbound
- add myself to the waitlist for my preferred date for the outbound
- secure an outbound for the day before

The outbound ended up at 36,125 miles + AUD 443

For whatever reason, the inbound came at 36,125 + AUD 377

Not a massive save but a nice surprise.

The variation could be due to the differing taxes from each departure location. It will be interesting to see what the outbound costs are when they are available.

FWIW, I always price my journey as two separate flights as well as a return.
Gives me more flexibility
Often save a little on taxes, like you did
Get double Changi dollars as two separate ticket numbers
Only disadvantage is no free stopover

Thanks for the prompt Duffa.

Thinking about it we always book separate legs when flying to/from Fiji as it's always noticeably cheaper than a return.

Not any more. From 01 April you are only eligible for Changi dollars on return tickets. Note the use of "return". I suspect 2 one-ways are not a return.

Good luck and I am guessing this will be a huge YMMV.

Bummer! Thanks for the heads-up JK.

Hi all,

What would have happend if the waitlist didn't come through and your booking was not accepted?

Another advantage of two one ways is that of changes and cancellations.

On a return redemption, the tix cannot be changed after departure.

By keeping the legs separated allows for changes to the return without forfeiting the entire tix.
